This is a very beautiful drive when the fall colors are changing, but the road becomes so crowded that it is gridlocked, and the driving experience on the narrow road is pretty white-knuckled. We went on a Sunday afternoon thinking we'd avoid 90% of the Provo population, but that was not the case. The road was bumper to bumper along the entire way, and there were spots where traffic was a standstill. What compounded the issue is that the road is extremely narrow, and it takes some maneuvering to get around oncoming traffic - especially for F-350s and jacked up Jeeps. If you're just passing through the canyon you don't have to pay a fee as it's a state road. Don't waste your time sitting in line at the rangers booth, just go around.
