Tom was an accommodating and welcoming host. He showed us around, told us the history of the property, and even brought out some toys for the kids. You'll find all kinds of artifacts from the area: old stoves, chests, and bricks of glass from the gold extraction process. The school house for the community is on this property, and another old building where you can see the original construction methods from the 19th century: pinion posts, mudded infill, adobe finishes, and mud bricks. I will say having admired the various bottle decorated fences near to Madrid on the Turquoise Trail, this is the best example and easiest to stop at to admire. He happily tours you through the interesting little rooms and installations he has created as well as tell you a little bit about the history of the land and his family.
