Had the opportunity to go on a guided snowshoeing expedition with REI! Amazing trails, snow was beautiful, lake was frozen over (don’t walk on the lake!). Restrooms available, lots of beautiful spots to sit and admire the nature. We hiked up towards Chicago Lake trail with our guide, and although cold, the sun was shining in the pristine and seemingly untouched nature! I’ve never been up to Echo Lake during the winter but can highly recommend! Layer, bring water and sunscreen! Leave no...

It was busy, as expected, especially since Mt. Blue Sky auto road is closed. I was a bit disappointed in hearing singers from a large camp down below trail I hiked to get away from crowds right at the lake. It definitely detracted from the meditative peace of walking in Nature. But it's a beautiful area, and I saw ample wildlife, including baby ducklings, a large elk herd along the road and a lone moose. On a day with Temps near 100°F in the city, hiking in the 50s was also a...

This is one of the best spots within an hour of Denver. Beautiful trails at very high altitude. Quiet and serene surrounded by lodgepole pines. During the hot summer months this place stays cool. There is a cool lodge next to lake that sells souvenirs and has a nice little cafe. If you continue up, you can drive all the way to the summit of Mt. Evans, which I highly recommend. This place is generally very quiet and most of the...

It is an incredible place to visit at different times of the year. There are two trails, one along the lake is an easy 1.4 miles, and the second is for lovers of challenging hikes and beautiful views. It takes about an hour to get to the first Chicago lake, but you definitely won’t regret it, it’s wonderful.

We stopped by to look at the lake which was beautiful. Saw the ducks and a chipmunk! Then we decided to go hiking on the trail behind the lake and what an awesome surprise and time we had! I recommended my son to go hiking here. We met some septuagenarians along the hike, how inspiring!
