The Mount Blue Sky Welcome Station is the gate to access the 14 mile road to the summit. This is where you check-in for your timed reservation which is made on line.
I’ve never had more than 3 or 4 vehicles in front of me during check in. Have your ticket ready either printed out or on your phone and you will whisk right through. In spite of the same advice when you make your reservation it never fails to amaze me how many people seem to fumble around looking for their ticket and hold up the line.
I think there has been unnecessary fear generated about the condition of this road. I admit, it is not for the feint of heart driver or people that have a fear of heights. There are no guard rails and you will frequently drive along some precipitous sections with shear drops set against the background of gorgeous mountain vistas. Take your time! Don’t let that guy behind you rush you - they are taking a day off too and should enjoy the view!
There are plenty of places to pull over and let people pass or take in the scenery. The three main areas are Mt. Goliath, Summit Lake and the Summit. All have good parking and restrooms.

I gave the ranger exact change and they said, “Thanks so much for the exact change!” I felt very proud.
