Echo Lake campground is a good place to kick back and relax for a bit. Although a little close to the neighboring site (will add photos), the site itself was well cared for and decently level. The toilets are a bit messy and stink a bit but such is to be expected of vault toilets, and I would recommend the use of the facilities at the nearby Echo Lake Lodge (which at the time of writing are out of service due to a septic issue but the porta potties they brought in are well maintained and decently clean). The camp host was nice and was decently accessible (if you can't find her at her trailer try the Lodge). The water is between sites 7 and 8 and is a little difficult to pump.
All in all 4/5. Toilets could be better maintained and the sites could be a little better spaced apart, but my family and I had a good time. The hand pump at the water well could stand to be replaced or at least lubricated, but it was usable.
I liked my stay here and wish to return at some point. Keep...
Read moreWe stayed at Echo Lake campground on our Colorado Road Trip. We had just come down from Rocky Mountain National Park and we wanted to check out Mt. Evans the next day, so we decided to stay here. We did not spend much time here, we set up our tent and then headed to Denver to watch the MLS Soccer game and fireworks for the 4th of July. It was 95 degrees when we got to Denver, lets just say we weren't dressed right, it was 60 degrees at Echo Lake Campground. When we got back up to the campground it had hailed and sleeted and was 32 degrees that night! Got down to 29 degrees! Definitely bring warm clothes for here, the elevation is at 10,600 feet and doesn't get too warm. It was nice to be right at the entrance to enter Mt. Evans the next morning, what a drive! Definitely would recommend staying at this campground for the experience of camping in the high elevation. We left after checking out Mt. Evans so we didn't spend too...

Usually the reservation system through rec.gov will let you know if the water pump at the campsite is not working. I checked the website the day before going, and it said there was water available. When we got there, the well pump was wrapped up in the plastic and clearly had been like that for some time.
Caveat emptor-- don't trust the rec.gov website about the water supply.
Also-- the campground hosts laid very low and, compared to so many of the other campsites I've stayed at in Colorado, did a VERY shoddy job of keeping the restroom facilities swept and decent. It wasn't hellish but it also was clear they did not take their 'hosting' responsibilities seriously...
