Javelina Leap: A Page Springs Gem with Wine Worthy of a Standing Ovation While hopping from vineyard to vineyard in Page Springs (purely for research purposes, of course), we found ourselves at Javelina Leap, and let me just say—it leapt right to the top of our list! From the moment we pulled into the charming, rustic property tucked against the hillside, we knew we were in for something special. The tasting room is cozy and inviting, flanked by wine barrels and wildflowers, with vintage signs giving it a nostalgic, small-town charm that made us want to pull up a chair and stay awhile—which we did, naturally. The weather was chef’s kiss—just the right amount of cloud coverage to make us feel like the universe approved of our day drinking. We snagged a table on the lawn, surrounded by shady trees, picnic tables, and that magical mix of sunlight and wine-fueled laughter. They’ve even got yard games for those who like their Syrah with a side of cornhole. Now let’s talk wine: the flight was fantastic—a well-balanced journey through their award-winning reds and whites. (And judging by the shelf full of medals inside, we’re clearly not the only ones who think so.) The charcuterie board was an absolute delight: salami, cheeses, grapes, nuts, chocolate—basically everything your inner wine goddess (or god) could hope for, beautifully plated and dangerously snackable. Between the beautiful views, the laid-back vibe, the friendly staff, and the fact that even the restrooms had character, Javelina Leap gave us exactly the kind of wine country magic we were looking for. And yes—we did walk out with a bottle (or three). No regrets. Tip: Don’t skip the sangria—it’s fruity, fabulous, and perfect for sipping while pretending you’re in Tuscany (but with better parking).

Javelina Leap has a unique setting that is very inviting. The first tasting room is a huge bar, and it’s pretty dark in there. There is another tasting room that is larger with high top tables. There is plenty of outdoor seating some under cover and some under trees (picnic tables). A gentleman was playing music which was quite varied, and he was talented. We really weren’t impressed with any of the wines. They weren’t bad they just weren’t anything special – especially for the price tag which averaged about $50 a bottle. The only reason we even bough a bottle is because we were visiting with friends and wanted something to drink. The flatbread pizzas were just ok. Service was a bit slow. Granted they were fairly busy but they appeared understaffed. We got 2 pizzas, one tasting, and one bottle of wine for $100.

This was our first time here and Out of the 3 wineries that we tried in the area, I enjoyed this one the most. I didn't try the food so I can't rate that. I'm rating the service, wine quality, and servings. There are several welcoming areas that they have where you can enjoy your flight. They aren't stingy with their wine like a lot of these places. Live music is definitely a plus which I enjoyed, on their shaded patio with plenty of tables and chairs. It's a beautiful place has a vintage vibe. Love the decor. There wasn't a very big crowd when we arrived so service was very attentive. They also have an outdoor park with lots of benches, green grass, shaded trees and a gazebo covering picnic tables where you can also enjoy your flight. Perfect place to enjoy your wine in any space you'd like!

Do not come here if you are a person of ethnicity or if you enjoy polite service or ANY service for that matter. My friend and I came in and patiently waited at the counter making eye contact and smiling at each of the four employees for almost 10 minutes. We were standing in front of two empty tasting boards as well as we wanted to do a tasting. I worked in hospitality over the last eleven years and six of them were spent in hotel management so I understand that it gets busy and also what good service looks like so we tried to give the time. An older couple walked in and stood at the counter just next to us and were greeted IMMEDIATELY. Again working in the industry I understand sometimes things happen so after this older woman with a pixie cut hair and glasses help them I politely interjected that we had also been waiting and would love to participate in a tasting as well, her reply was “oh you were simply overlooked.” No smile no apology and poor choice of words. Again being as patient as we could be continued the tasting as we were excited as wine enthusiasts. She looked so upset that she had to help us at all so we attempted to be assisted by a woman with darker burgundy hair who did poor us wines after again having to try and politely get someone’s attention with an “excuse me please ma’am” after a few failed attempts. I looked around and there were only two other couples at the bar both of which had already gotten their tastings poured so I was slightly confused. They did in fact pour the wine for us eventually with no explanation whatsoever of each wind they simply poured it silently and left which I thought was odd considering I worked at a vineyard in Australia at a boutique hotel and they are very enthusiastic about sharing about the wine. Before we begin to pour the wine into our glassware tasting I noticed there was a lipstick or lip imprint on my glass. When again it took me a while to get someone’s attention I alerted the same dark-haired woman about the glass and she seemed extremely annoyed and again no apology or give me one moment and I will get that - nothing. At this point we were feeling uncomfortable as we watched her pick up several glasses and put them back down when they weren’t clean. We finally decided we obviously were not wanted there so we wanted to leave which was sad because one of the ones I actually really enjoyed and wanted to purchase a bottle of. The same rude short haired blonde woman with glasses finally came over to us after I literally had to WAVE down one the four women who were talking amongst them selves ( I’ve never waived in my life to anyone on the industry as I’ve always found polite words sufficient). When the Spond woman finally came over we alerted her we would like to close out as we didn’t feel we could get any kind service. She offered no apology or ANY sort of remorse or inquiry she simply said “OK” and brought us the bill for $20 each. The WORST most unprofessional see I’ve ever experienced.

I own and operate a tour company in the Verde Valley, and have been providing tours to the area vineyards for over a decade. Recently I took my clients to Javelina Leap Winery located on Page Springs Road, and the service my clients and I received was outstanding! Lucas was there in the driveway to great my guests before we even exited the vehicle. From there is just got better and better. He escorted us through the crush pad to the Arizona Room, all the while talking about the wines they produce and how the vineyard got started. Once my clients sat down, he got a feel for what kinds of wine they enjoyed, and then the samples began to flow with detailed descriptions of each wine. I've never got this experience in my ten years of doing wine tours. From there he took us all on a private vineyard tour, again explaining the entire wine making process. Once we got to the barrel room, he opened one of their reserve wines for my clients to enjoy, based on their preferences from what they liked best during the tasting flight. They ended up liking it so much they bought two bottles. On the way back to Sedona, they raved to me about their experience at Javelina Leap, saying this was the "best wine tasting tour" they had ever been on. As a tour guide, I have over 25 choices in which to take my clients, but with the service I received from Lucas, personalized attention, knowledge, the whole package, as a tour operator, I will most certainly be bring all my tours to Javelina...
