Beautiful hiking area. My friends and I took the lower columbine trail and walked for a good 30-45 minutes up the trail and then back to our car. The trails are straightforward and easy to follow. We went during one of the first snowfalls. River still flowing nearby. A few people on the trail. Some walking their dogs others were trail running not suitable for strollers or bicyclists. It was an intermediate hike with the uphill walk and switch backs. Overall I ugh recommend this location and trail.

Very popular free scenic trail which needs maintenance! Avoid this on the weekends if you can. Limited parking either upper or lower sections on weekends. This trail parallels the canyon road. The bridges along this road are being renovated. So parking near the bridges are taken by construction equipment and materials. The trails NEED maintenance. Many washed out sections. The surface consists mostly of pea gravel (imagine little marbles), which makes the descent slippery.

When you park at the Middle Columbine lot, you can either hike down (easy) to Lower Columbine or hike up (intermediate) for the Middle Columbine Trail or Spring Creek Trail. Going up - the initial switchbacks are steep & will get your heart pumping. Poles help if you have trouble with loose gravel. Be prepared for lots of mountain bikers & some narrow sections of the trail.

A great trail in the beautiful North Cheyenne Canyon. It basically covers the entire length of the canyon. Great views throughout. There are a lot of ups and downs, but if taken slowly, it's doable for the average hiker. The trail isn't marked very well, but it isn't hard to get lost as there aren't many intersections with other trails.

My recommendation, if going round trip, is to start at the Lower Columbine and hike your way to the top at Upper Columbine then back down. Middle Columbine gets pretty steep and the gravel is pretty loose. Shoes with good traction are recommended, and for those who need support, trekking poles would definitely benefit.

The best views are points along the Upper Columbine. You can see the city of Colorado Springs and there are gorgeous points of view...
