Ok, so I never leave reviews like this online, but since their refund policy is scorched-earth, no-exceptions, no-refunds, I figure this is the only way to let them know that they're losing business.
My experience at Soldier Hollow was extremely disappointing, which is a MEGA bummer because I loved going there so much as a kid. Upon arrival, we were instructed to "drag our feet" to slow down before hitting the barrier, and told that failure to comply would result in smaller group sizes. I have several problems with this.
First of all, the barriers themselves were moved CLOSER to the end of the runs than I remember, which is crazy because back when I would come in years past, EVERYONE (with the exception of kids) was slamming into the fenced wall/net at the very end of the run. I thought it was just part of the experience. While I understand the need for safety, expecting adults to drag their feet at high speeds on an icy hill is dangerous and risks severely injuring our feet/ankles. Secondly, how is the speed of the tube even under our control at all? Expecting a 225 lbs, 6"1 tall man to slow himself down enough on an icy hill, especially when paired with another adult, is crazy work.
The rule made NO sense, and just frustrated everyone. My 8-yo son even said: "Dad, why are they asking us to control something (our speed down the hill) when it's something that we CAN'T control?" Another patron turned around and said: "Great observation, kid!" It was abundantly clear that other patrons were as frustrated as we were.
Furthermore, the staff's decision to ultimately reduce the group size down to one person was unreasonable and prevented my family from enjoying the experience together. My children were only able to go down four times during our two-hour slot and were not allowed to play anywhere around the top of the hill. We paid a total of $155 for 5 people to go tubing. That's $38.75 PER RUN. That's ridiculous. The staff's behavior towards my children was also rude and unprofessional. Their announcements over the loudspeaker were condescending at best.
I would implore you to NOT go to Soldier Hollow due to these issues....
Read moreO stars. Okay, so let's start by my husband and I are on our honeymoon AND drove 14 hours to come to this place to come tubing. One of our reasons for driving all the way here was because they allowed no animals. When we got here to do the night tubing they couldn't find our reservation and were completely sold out. So we left and booked reservation for the next day. We get to the tubing area its nothing like we expected it's one of the tiniest tubing hills I've seen. Then we go up and someone has his dog with no leash running around licking people and brushing up against people. Kids are crying from being afraid of it. 3 family's left because this dog was licking them and wouldn't leave them alone. (In the mean time my husband and I are trying to get me to a safe place since I have a life threatening allergy to dogs) the employee who is telling people when to go is calling the dogs name and playing with it neglecting his responsibilities to play with the dog and want watching as people even went down the lanes that were coned off. Then the EMPLOYEE and dog owner put the dog in it's own tube. Unsanitary. So after my husband and I walk down the hill we go talk to the staff and they have no idea. And try to tell us their is no dog like we the customers and I'm in tears because I was so close to dying on their property and they are calling us liars. But finally my husband convinces them to call the employees up there and the employee says yes he was bringing me my lunch hea here every day I'm here. They tell me there is a no pet policy and he says hes never heard of that. Now that this was our only day to tube on our honeymoon I'm forced to leave 5 minutes in because of the dog they wouldn't get rid of. So obviously I will never ever ever come back here I recommend no one come here and I will be telling everyone I know to never come here. Oh and if you bring kids be careful because of the dog peeing in the snow one kid ate the snow the dog peed in. So there's that as well. So lastly for those who didn't read this all bottom line I ALMOST DIED HERE BECAUSE OF THE STAFF AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND...
Read moreWent today, and paid the holiday weekend fees. The snow was pretty icy, so we went super fast. All three of us(two adults and a 7 year old,) went down the run together, and because it was so icy, we were going so fast, that we crashed into the fencing at the end of the run. It was a pretty bad wreck. One of the poles flipped back and nailed me in my eye, and I hurt my neck and my back.
While we were trying to collect ourselves, and check to see if everyone was okay, up comes one of the workers, reprimanding us for crashing. It was our first run, and we didn’t even know that we were supposed to dig our heels into the snow at the orange cones. We tried to explain to him that we had just gotten there, and had no idea about that rule. The guy instead argued that I had had “ample warnings” to dig my heels in. I didn’t know what he was even talking about. He said that the overhead speakers told us to do this, and somehow he knew of other ways we had warnings which we never heard. The speakers are super loud, so if we had heard it, we’d know! Dudes at the top didn’t even tell us to do that. So, the guy told us he was giving us a “warning,” and if it happened again, they’d kick us out. I was so dumbfounded, that I just said to the guy, “I noticed that not one have you even asked us if we were okay.” The guy was an EMS worker too! He didn’t even help us get out of the netting. Nothing.
I couldn’t believe we were treated that way. I dropped $88.00 only to be blamed for crashing, getting reprimanded for it, and told we’d be kicked out! We’re two women with a seven year old. Pretty sure we weren’t trying to crash for fun. The mats at the end were frozen over too, so they did nothing to slow us down.
There’s literally no communication going on between the workers unless someone crashes, and they have to put the fence back up. Multiple other groups crashed into the fencing too, and that EMS dude, was nowhere to be seen. Such a joke.
I’ll be going to the Park City sledding runs from now on. $88.00 for 3...
