Journeying through the iconic landscapes of Sedona, the Subway Cave on Long Canyon Trail offers adventurers a beautiful, slightly off-the-beaten-path experience. Located in the picturesque environs of the Sedona area, this trail and its unique cave features provide a refreshing blend of exploration and visual delight.

The hike itself is moderately easy, making it accessible to a broad spectrum of visitors. Whether you're an occasional hiker or someone who treads trails often, the Subway Cave trail is forgiving enough to be enjoyable yet offers just the right touch of challenge to keep things interesting. The path is well-defined, guiding travelers through the serene beauty of Sedona's iconic red rock formations and leading them to the fascinating Subway Cave.

However, before setting foot on the trail, one must navigate the hurdle of limited parking. As with many popular natural attractions, the parking area can quickly become crowded, especially during peak times. Arriving early or visiting during off-peak hours might be a strategy worth considering. Yet, this minor inconvenience does little to detract from the trail's overall charm.

And of course, the crowning jewel of this journey is the breathtaking view. Sedona's landscapes are legendary, and the vistas from Long Canyon Trail are no exception. The panoramic scenes of majestic red rocks, vibrant flora, and the vastness of the Arizona sky serve as a vivid backdrop to the Subway Cave. This natural canvas of colors and textures is nothing short of mesmerizing, making every step of the journey worthwhile.

In essence, Subway Cave and the Long Canyon Trail in Sedona offer a harmonious blend of easy hiking, geological wonders, and soul-stirring views. Despite the parking challenges, the trail remains a must-visit for those seeking to fully immerse themselves in the...

Amazing views from the top and obviously the cave is super cool! The hike is really easy until the very end to get up into the cave. The trail from Boynton Canyon was really obvious. Just look for the Y and stay right. We were expecting a more hidden path after reading many reviews here on Google and on all trails, but its really hard to miss. After about 2 miles into the hike start to keep your eye out for the Y when you are close to the river bed. We started just after sunrise and there were already a handful of people up in the cave when we got up. It is less organized than the devils bridge hike as far as a line for pictures go. There isn't a great place to wait your turn and it's a little tricky navigating in the cave itself.

There are a couple ways to get up to the cave. Through the opening, or around the side. If you go the easier way up around the side you have to sneak around a pretty small ledge to get into the cave.

By the time we headed back crowds of people were coming in and it was no longer all that enjoyable to hike due to having to constantly pull of and let oncoming groups pass. If you want solitude I would skip this hike or go before sunrise. We were able to park at the trailhead near the resort (got there around 7:30am), but by the time we left cars were parked a ways down the road and I imagine people waited a while for photos in the cave if they even...

Hiking the Boynton Canyon and Subway Cave in Sedona Arizona was an extremely fun hike. I hiked this trail on August/22/2022. It costs $5 for parking or American National Park Pass. The trail itself is a little bit over 8 miles Out & Back, and has about 900 ft of elevation gain. It was an easy hike, not exceedingly challenging, until I climbed up to Subway Cave. Getting up to it was steep, but a lot of fun, and yet intensely beautiful, with incredible views of Red Rocks Canyon from the cave, where I also observed abundant wildlife. The trail was a mixture of red rocky areas, forrest, and areas completely exposed to the sun. The trail isn't very well marked, but I paid attention to the foot prints on the ground, as they were a lifesaver to keeping me on the right path... The highlight of this hike was the SUBWAY CAVE itself. Find it and getting to this cave was an amazing adventure for me. Note: Bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, hiking boots, and a hat, as I have previously noted in my other reviews. I would also recommend wearing long pants as they will help you avoid getting cuts and scrathes from the bushes along the trail... Happy...
