"Not Every Journey Needs Completion" (Part 1) | Sedona 🏜️✨
The Boynton Canyon Trail is one of Sedona's most beginner-friendly hikes, often regarded by spiritual travelers as a sacred site where ancient tribes once held rituals and meditations. The main route spans 10km round-trip, while its offshoot—Subway Cave—draws crowds with its unique tunnel-like formation. 🏨 Pro Tip: Stay at Enchantment Resort along the trail! Their private gate for guests cuts 2km off the hike to Subway Cave—so convenient! 🔍 Hidden Gem: Along the way, watch for handmade stick arrows guiding you right. Follow them, climb a short rocky path, and you'll discover remnants of the Sinagua people—an ancient culture that used these caves for storage (corn, beans!) and left behind petroglyphs and carvings. 🚧 The Challenging Part: Past the ruins, a narrow, outward-sloping ledge leads to Subway Cave's iconic view. But as someone with acrophobia, my body screamed "DANGER!"—muscles locked, legs wobbled. The dizzying drop played tricks on my vision, so I honored my limits and turned back. 🧗 Alternative Attempt: I tried climbing the cave's inner slope instead, but after 3 meters (slippery rocks + nerves), I retreated. Meanwhile, two experienced hikers in their 50s scaled it effortlessly, and others casually applied sunscreen on the ledge I'd feared. 🍂 The Silver Lining: Completing the rest of Boynton Canyon Trail was magical—crunchy autumn leaves underfoot, crisp pine-scented air, and fellow hikers meditating or picnicking at the endpoint. 💭 Final Thoughts: Though I didn't conquer Subway Cave's final 20 meters, I left zero regrets. The journey itself was breathtaking, and I firmly believe: "Nothing is mandatory—especially when your gut says STOP." #GoodTrip #GoodVibes #NaturesArt #HikingTrails #Sedona #Arizona #TravelUSA
