It's a very pretty place to go for a short walk when your there and it's such a cool layout where you can view the old man the way it was back in the day, by standing at the points indicated according to your height. The walk is about 20 mins and It's very peaceful and quiet just to be there surrounded by flowers and the view of the profile Lake with the mountains surrounded. There is a very nice view of the Eagle Cliff from this point too. Do recommend going there.I went with my Fiance on Labor day weekend and it was not crowded at all. There is a very pretty bike path that goes through the Old man...

10/2022 Nostalgia brings me back here, any time we are in the area. It is always clean & well kept, and I like their plans for future work. The path to the monument area is paved, which is very nice. There is only one major drawback... there is a very steep hill from that 1st building (alongside parking lot), going down to the memorial/monument area. The hill is much too steep for a wheelchair, so my daughter was unable to go along the path to the memorial area (something she loved, before her accident that left her in...

Beautiful views here all around. Though the Old Man of the Mountain may be gone, there is a pretty cool way to see what it would have looked like while still on the mountain. Go to the small viewing park and find the footprints that match your height and stand in them and the post in front of you will align with your eyeline and the mountain and show you what the Old Man would look like if still there. Very clever and very well thought out to do this. Decent sized parking lot and a short walk down to...

Hard to believe it, but today, 5/3/23, marks 20 years since the Old Man of the Mountain tumbled down to the base of Franconia Notch State Park. He was a local icon, a rock-star of sorts, a sign that you were well and truly in the White Mountains of NH. While you can’t gaze up at him in quite the same way as you did long ago, the Old Man lives on at one truly awesome memorial plaza. To get, there take exit 34-B off I-93. Then? Enjoy the view! 🪨 #whitemountains #travel #oldmanofthemountain

The Old Man of the Mountain was a famous natural rock formation located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, USA. It consisted of a series of five granite ledges, estimated to be around 200 million years old, that formed a profile resembling the outline of a human face when viewed from the correct angle. It measured approximately 40 feet tall and 25 feet wide. This iconic profile included a prominent forehead, nose, and chin, earning it the nickname "the Great Stone Face." The Old Man of the Mountain held significant cultural and historical importance for the state of New Hampshire, often serving as a symbol of strength, resilience, and the rugged beauty of the region. It became a popular tourist attraction and was featured on state insignia, NH state quarter, license plates, and tourism materials. However, tragically, the formation collapsed on May 3, 2003, due to natural erosion processes. Despite its physical absence, the Old Man of the Mountain continues to hold a special place in the hearts of New Hampshirites and visitors alike. In honor of the Old Man of the Mountain, a memorial site has been established near its former location. This site features a plaza with steel profiler markers recreating the view of the profile of geological formation which once stood, as well as informational displays about its history and significance. Daniel Webster, a 19th century New Hampshire statesman, once wrote, referring to the Old Man, “In the mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men.” The “Old Man of the Mountain” viewing area binoculars now display a close-up view of the “Old Stone Face” how it looked before collapse. #oldmanofthemountain #nhicon #granitestate #nh #newhampshire #newengland #whitemountains #whitemountainsnh #cannonmountain #onedaytrip #tiktoktravel #explorenh #naturalwonders #geological #familyhiking #nhcheck #tiktokadventure #franconianotch #statepark #visitnh #newhampshirecheck #whitemountainsnewhampshire #livefreeordie #mountains #familytime #thingstodoinnh #nhoutdoors #theoldman #fypage
