Great trails for a comfortable hike and still within the city limits. Light to moderate trails that can be combined to give you a number of different hiking options. Experienced hikers looking for a challenge may not be happy but for 90% of the people looking to hike in a woods environment, this is your place. The park is broken up into three sections. The lower which has most of the trail information and a nice small waterfall and a pavilion for events. The upper which has one of the best views of the Frankfort area, also has a beautiful pavilion, a concrete walking path that has plenty of points on it to step off the path and take side "woods" trails which can connect to the lower park and also has a very nice archery range that I personally have never used but looks amazing. Then lastly there's the marsh section that has some additional trails, one of which takes you a raised pathway over the wetlands in the area. The location is dog friendly, offering baggys for picking up after your 4 legged friend. It's a great place to spend some time either on your own or with friends and family. I go there weekly and have done so for years. They city parks department along with volunteers have made huge improvements to the location and maintain the park...
Read moreAwesome park. I am fortunate to live so close. I have for about six years, and still don't tire of it. So many aspects to it. Three major entrances. The oval above, the main lot with the waterfall below, with the numerous trails that let you decide your own distance and hill or mountain climb, and across the street, the low land is where you see the most variety of little furry fellows. I've seen many deer, many beaver, many otter, many muskrat, one coyote, and today I saw a huge fox, got a good look at him. Stepped out from the hill by the bench in front of me about 40 yards, turned and faced me, saw his fox face, orange looking, bushy tail, distinctive fox, but larger than what you see on TV, and he ran away on the trail some piece and turned off to the hill again. Quite a sight. One can see great wildlife in this awesome park, and get great walks, jogs, and nature hikes. I want to add that it is the best designed park I ever saw, and I've seen hundreds of parks. Whomever designed this is a genius, and the workers and volunteers are more than 10/10....
Read moreThis park is unique. It's the first park I've seen that has wetlands in Kentucky! The trails are fairly easy as my 3 year old hiked most by herself (though a few are steep so be prepared to climb and wear proper shoes) and some trails are very well marked. On the downside, there are no paper maps, only a board that has a map posted for you to look at. There are many little off shoot trails that connect you to other trails and you can easily get lost. Those trails are not on the map and while you would think it is easy to keep on the marked trail, sometimes the actual trail is not marked on forks. Somehow I got lost twice but it was easy enough to just backtrack and go back how I came. Over all the experience was a good one and each trail has something different and special to offer. I will definitely be back with my dogs next time and a printed...
