Terrible Experience - Discriminatory Behavior
If youāre Asian, be extremely cautious when visiting this place, especially if the tall, long-haired older male staff member is still working there. His blatantly racist behavior was shocking and humiliating.
During a previous visit, this man proudly mentioned calling the police on an Asian person. During our most recent visit, he yelled at us, āGet out! Leave now!ā while locking the door and refusing to assist us. He shouted so loudly that it could be heard from outside, closed the curtains, and left us standing in the cold. We had recently moved, so my husbandās driverās license showed our old address, and he gave the new address. The staff member didnāt give him a chance to explain, turned red in the face, and immediately started yelling at my husband. This is no excuse for such behavior. Later, he immediately welcomed a group of white men while continuing to ignore us.
When I politely tried to approach the office, he slammed the door, nearly injuring my hand. His actions were reckless, humiliating, and clearly racially motivated.
The police had to intervene to help us check in, visibly embarrassed by his actions. They even provided information on how to file a formal complaint.
Weāve also heard complaints about him a lot from our large camping community. This establishment must address such unacceptable and racial...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to a few campgrounds and cabins around New Jersey and this is by far my favorite . Situated in a very scenic town that makes you feel like youāve stepped into a different world compared to where Iām from in central NJ.
The campground cabins sections are small but spaced out well to provide a bit of privacy. Your neighbor is visible, but never feels like youāre on top of them as the cabins are surrounded by trees on all sides, this was very well thought out.
Bathrooms are not too far away and only one shower and toilet stall per gender . They can use some updating, but certainly not dilapidated. Cabins 1&2 are closest to the bathroom. I stayed in cabin 5 in the pictures.
I like that thereās numerous trails close by which I didnāt try as I didnāt feel comfortable going alone , but next time!
The staff seems to be very friendly , Dale checked me in , gave me the tour and also mentioned about an observatory, not too far.
The nights here for some reason get very dark , maybe because where itās situated but itās perfect for star gazing.
The public area and campground areas seem to be small, but if youāre looking for a quiet getaway this is an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have stayed at shelters one and two so far. Both times over the winter. Each cabin has 2 bunks a table with 2 benches and a wood burning stove. No fire tools prividec just an ash bucket snd shovel.
There was a broom and dust pan as well as a snow shovel. Both were clean and well kept. The new cabins (besides 3 and 6 I think) all have a covered deck
Easy to heat up and to keep warm ,in fact it would get too hot at some points in the night. The bathrooms are heated and lit with running water.
Even the furthest shelter from the bathrooms is a quick walk up / down the hill
Garbage and recycling are by the main office. There are no cans at the shelters
There are plenty of hiking trails as well as a playground to keep everyone occupied if needed.
The solar system trail is missing a few planets and signs but it is still a fun easy hike. Strollers might be a bit hard to push on it but other wise it's fairly easy.
We had a lovely time. The staff was super friendly, and the shelters were fantastic.
They sell fire wood for seven dollars a bag and some t shirts...
