Possum Creek Park is consistently the favorite park of most people you'll meet in Gainesville. I drive past several other parks about 20 minutes to get there.
The playground is well designed and perfectly situated. Maximum shade for most of the year is provided by trees. Bathrooms and the pavilion for picnicking are immediately adjacent.
The skate park has lots of fun obstacles and is constantly in use by skateboarders, scooter riders, bmx bikers, and even sometimes roller bladers. The best part is that the concrete is so smooth that road rash and skinned knees are rare sights, but just in case, there is an emergency phone line standing by.
A great gravel walking trail makes a circumference of the park, staying mostly in the shade. The east side of the park is mostly open field where many come to play soccer or catch, fly kites, toss a Frisbee, drive RC cars and planes, learn to ride a bike workout training wheels, or any other number of things. The northeast corner boats one of the largest dog parks in the area, with separate sections for larger and smaller dogs.
In the far east end of the park are two short hiking trails. One leads into a swampy area where alligators can sometimes be seen, and other has a bridge over the creek to a large pair of fields where many go to walk their dogs. We have used this space to launch model rockets as it is sparsely populated.
This is truly a park for people...
Read moreSkateboarding, dog walking or taking your kids to the sizable playground, Possum Creek has something for everyone! The playground is fairly large and a wide variety of things, swing sets, various monkey bars, balance and agility trainers, dip bars, slides and more, all on a soft mulch in the event of a fall.
The skateboard park is the largest I know of in Gainesville, with a nice variety of obstacles to practice on. It is kept very clean in comparison to most skate parks I have seen, not quite as large as what you may find in LA or NYC, but sizable for Gainesville and easily will handle a large number of people simultaneously.
There is also a wooded trail in the back of the park, appropriate footwear is recommended. The trails lead to a large field, a bridge and some other things which you can discover. Not nearly as long a trail as what San Felasco has, but nice nonetheless. The park is also dog friendly.
There is also a community garden in the works, and some other additions currently under development it seems.

Read moreThere is a community garden with amazing veggies in the raised bed and fenced provided by the city. The owners of the raised bed/s come to tend to the garden. It's really impressive. A dog park just west of the garden had a nice crowd of dog owners first thing in the morning. There are two bathrooms next to the covered pavilion with a walking/running path around the park. Large trees provide great shade along with flat areas for paying football or even setting up some bounce houses. This is a well maintained park, very clean, meaning no trash. It's quiet and peaceful. I would not use the far left bathroom because the seat is really rather nasty. Over all this is a great park! I will go again and maybe have a family gathering! There's a realky nice playground for the children just behind the pavilion. There's many picnic benches at the covered pavilion up front and two in the back of the park also in a Pavillion. Don't miss this place!! Across 43rd stress there's a Publix and that would make a great picnic...
