We chose Stoney Creek out of proximity to the downtown area of Galena for a St. Patrick's Day weekend getaway. We arrived early, around 1p but our room was not ready yet. However, we were told that we had been upgraded to as suite. We decided to visit the downtown area, awaiting the readiness of our room. The person at the front desk was to call us. After a couple of hours, we did not get a phone call. So we went back to the hotel to try and see if our room was ready. We were told we would have a charge of $350 for incidentals put on our room cost right away. It would be taken off a couple of days after we left and checked out. I thought this was odd. The room was on the 1st floor, and the entry were double doors, which made it seem special from the outside. Upon entering the room, we noticed right away. There was a jetted bathtub in the room, and the room was not very big. Neither was the tub. The bed was extra large. There was an electric fireplace and a TV mounted over the top of the fireplace that was not very big. To the right of the TV. There was a very large picture of a bear. The picture was much larger than the tv...kinda odd. The whole room was northwood's bears and moose themed, log cabin cute. The bathroom was rather tiny. The shower in the bathroom was not very big at all. Not a 2-person bathroom. A large person or couple would have a difficult time. If someone were in a wheelchair, I don't think it would be very accommodating. We only stayed 2 nights, so room cleaning was not an option unless we asked for it. The free breakfast, each morning, was very yummy. The pancake making machine was the best part. I want one for my kitchen. Lol. Overall, we would stay here again because of price, location, and cleanliness. It's rather dated but it is an economical hotel if you're visiting beautiful Galena illinois.
