So we had a fairly good day at the beach. The areas we've been to in the past used to be littered and dirty. Trash cans knocked over and broken glass in the sand. We gave it another chance off reading updated reviews. The shore line (at least where we were) was surprisingly clean. No broken glass and trash cans knocked over. There were six or seven other parties on the shore near us with kids so it worked out great. It was a bright and hot day but we came prepared for the sun and weather. We didn't see lifeguard near by us but we kept watch or went out with the kiddos when they did. Most of the day was building sand castles and enjoying the open air. Read moreIt's a nice change from the seawall beaches. There's not all the vehicular traffic, you can pull up to your spot on the beach and park right where you want to sit/camp or whatever. There are no piers or lifeguards. The beach is pretty flat, even the waves seemed calmer after being at the seawall just 30 minutes earlier. The downside is the younger crowd/college type pull up here and back up to the beach and play their stereos and come and go. We actually liked this side of the beach instead of the main strip but not sure how it would go with the young visitors. We discovered it too late in the day to give it a try....

Okay experience, but a few problems: Even though driving on the beach sounds fun, it makes for a less safe experience for young families letting their little kids run around at the beach. The beach essentially becomes a parking lot. Lots of people were blaring music, which again sounds fun if it's your music, but sound pollution for everyone else. And lastly, it can get fairly busy and crowded. With the beach itself being neither super dirty nor clean, and the water no different in quality than other beaches in northern Galveston, I'd say...
