Merriwood Ranch — Attraction in Garland

This is where my daughter learned to ride and it was a blessing to our family! What I especially loved about Merriwood is that the kids didn’t just get put on a horse - they learned to groom, saddle their own horse and character lessons as well! No whining or bad sportsmanship or mistreatment of the horses allowed!! The people you are working with always are honest and caring and have your child’s best interests at heart. She is still (at 38) still a horsewoman married to another horse lover! For a few summers she has taught at Merriwood (she is a teacher). She loves it as much as ever and adores the students- they remind her of herself at that age. They are also respective of your finances- horses are expensive, period! But you can do just lessons on school horses, lease an appropriate horse, and if you get into competition they go to the less expensive shows they think will most benefit the kids.

I LOVE Merriwood! I’ve been riding here for around 22 years. I’ve done everything from their camp as a child, to lessons and horse shows still to this day. Merriwood has a great community of supportive people to help you along your riding journey. They really do best by their horses and people. I have always found them willing to do what they can to meet requests of their clients while always exhibiting great professionalism. It feels weird to even say I’m a client of Merriwood because it feels more like family, but they have had my business for 22 years and more to come. I think that speaks volumes about Merriwood. I went to Merriwood Ranch camp as a kid and could not get enough. It's every little girls dream to spend all day with horses and learning all about them. Horseback riding has taught me hard work, responsibility and teamwork. I still ride at Merriwood a little less than 20 years later and love it just as much as I did as a kid. Mary Beth and Sid are great instructors providing constructive feedback and encouragement. Merriwood cares the utmost for their horses and they are truly some of the best I've ever ridden (and that is hard to find). Merriwood is a great place and I love the barn family atmosphere.
