I am giving it only one star because of safety. The garden is beautiful but the lady working there's work ethic was terrible (I'd give her a negative star if I could). We started to explore the garden around 3pm on a Thursday before we knew it was 4pm. A visitor like ourselves approached us asking us if we knew if there was another gate to exit since the entrance gate was locked. We tried to call the number listed on Fabyan Villa's website and all we got was a recording. The other visitor was able to climb over the gate and was kind enough to help us as well. My mom has sciatic pain and has nerve pain in one of her legs too. With the help of the other visitor and two kind passerby gentlemen we all were able to climb over the fence. My mom was in a lot of pain. There are two gates to this garden and both were closed. The other visitor said that the worker had seen her approaching that way and still locked it. She didn't realize the worker was locking the gate at the moment but the worker definitely saw her there. Had the worker done a final walk-through she would have known that there were people still inside.. forget that.. she knew someone was still inside!! she saw them!!!. This is a safety concern. My parents are seniors. Had it not been for the kind strangers helping it would have been very difficult for them to get over the gate.
Please be aware that you may locked in if you don't leave right before 4pm because safety is not...
Read moreI visited the morning we had frozen fog on all of the trees hoping to capture the garden with the beauty of winter. Regretfully the garden had been exposed to the sun too long already. Nonetheless the garden albeit closed for walking did offer some piece and relaxation just by being around it. During the open season that starts in May - the garden is a beautiful place to visit. Visiting hours are limited and you can actually see them in the bottom of one of the photos, however definitely worth scheduling your time around them. There is no charge to visit the garden however when you walk the grounds they do appreciate it a cheerful donation. Located in the fabyan forest preserve off of Route 31 there's ample space for picnicking fishing walking biking and if you go across the river there are more things to see including...
Read moreWhat a lovely and intriguing place! Our tour guide, Vivien, was very knowledgeable and informative about the house, its contents, the grounds, and the interesting couple who lived there! They had very eclectic hobbies.
We went on a day when it was raining, and I was surprised how very charming the Japanese garden was in the rain! It has many beautiful views throughout, and my kids had fun finding little shelters to get breaks from the rain. The whole experience felt like history coming a...
