Overlook Park is accessable by bicycle, wheelchair, or car, providing FREE access to Lake Georgetown. It has an approximately 1/10 miles ADA-approved paved trail (gently sloping) from the parking lot to the the edge of the lake providing access for people of all ability to fishing and lovely views of the lake. Open during daylight hours (there is a gate that locks the parking lot at dusk), there are bathrooms with running water, free parking, sheltered fishing, and swimming, plus some really nice hiking, and some of the best sunset views in the reigon.
I personally come here often because it is the converging point of several important trails for the area, especially for residents of Georgetown who use the trail network for alternative/ bicycle transportation around town.
Overlook Park is the Westernmost point of the lovely North San Gabriel River Trail which connects "Historic Old Town" Georgetown (the trail is now extended further east to the Katy's Crossing Neighborhood) to the very technical 26+ mile 'Good Water Loop' around Lake Georgetown -- which includes the approximate 1 mile trail across the top of the Lake Georgetown Dam, which is also accessable from Overlook Park. Overlook park is off of D.B. Woods road, providing the launching point for pedestrians and bicyclists who want to access the nearby HEB grocery store when using the trail system to get around town.
My children and I frequently ride our bikes along the San Gabriel River Trail to Overlook Park as an all weather, year-round scenic destination and perfect picnic spot...

Also, the edge is rock, so you need weights to hold said canopy down (no stakes). Because there is no actually "beach", you have to jump or slide off of the rock edge. It can be difficult to get in and out of the water. Especially for children. If you want to bring kids, have a life jacket if they are not great swimmers. There are boats and jetskis on the water as well that can cause waves. Also, zebra mussels have taken over on the rock edge, so WATER SHOES are a must. Alright, now that we covered all the necessary items, I will say it's an awesome spot. Loved to swim in it, great views. Also great to jump off into the water. Great place to have drinks because it is a hike to get there. I will be going again. But would not recommend for kids, just because it's so taxing to keep an...

A nearby spot Overlook Park was selected since it offered a decent hiking distance plus a water view. The park is relatively clean well maintained; there's sign of some construction going on but not messy. At the restroom I headed down toward the lake; the view was nice and the cooler breeze on the face was pleasant beyond words. I continued exploring the opposite of the Dam but decided turn around as the trails was getting narrowed but the tall grass. I headed back to the Dam to snap some pictures. Total distance covered was a little over 3 miles but it was a lot of fun....
