Glen Haven Beach, located in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore near Empire, MI, is widely praised for its natural beauty, historic ambiance, and variety of activities. • Beach Quality: The beach here is described as pebbly rather than sandy, with exceptionally clear water and sweeping views of Lake Michigan. The shoreline is spacious, making it feel less crowded even at peak times, and visitors regularly highlight its gorgeous, long vistas in both directions. • Swimming & Activities: The water is typically refreshing and cool, perfect for a swim on hot days—though colder than nearby inland lakes. The beach is also great for walking, wading, picnicking, and launching a kayak or canoe. Stone collectors will enjoy finding a variety of rocks, including fossilized corals along the shoreline. • Facilities & Accessibility: There are vault toilets, picnic tables, drinking water stations, and accessible paths, plus a modest parking area suitable for cars and buses. Note that, due to its popularity, parking can fill quickly, and restrooms may be limited during busy times. Wheelchair access is available. • Pet Friendly: Glen Haven Beach is also noted as pet-friendly, making it a good choice for those traveling with dogs. • Historic Setting: The proximity to Glen Haven Historical Village adds to the experience. The village features restored historic buildings, including a blacksmith shop and canning museum, offering interactive demonstrations and local history for both kids and adults. The nearby Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and low-lying dunes are good for hiking. • Atmosphere: Many visitors find Glen Haven to be a hidden gem—offering a quieter and more relaxed vibe compared to larger, tourist-heavy beaches, yet still providing beautiful views and a sense of immersion in Michigan’s...

We had a great time visiting Glen Haven Beach. The beach was clean, well-maintained, and offered easy access, making it a convenient stop for our family or anyone looking to enjoy Lake Michigan’s shoreline. The water was clear and beautiful and was perfect for a relaxing swim, though the water was pretty cold.

The only downside during our visit was the swarms of midge flies. They didn’t bite, but they were definitely a nuisance at times, especially when the breeze died down.

Overall, it’s a beautiful and peaceful spot that’s worth a visit, just be prepared for the bugs if there is no breeze to...

As for beauty- 4/5 (I mean it’s no Flamenco Beach or Magan’s Bay- so I can’t give it a 5). The sand is flat, the water is blue, and it extends out beyond where the eye can see. Pretty? For sure!

As for utilities, etc, there is a restroom if you walk to the end of town (down the street). There is a bed and breakfast/hotel where you can stay and eat, and there is...

This is a wonderful beach with limited parking and not too much space from the lot to the waters edge. However, it does stretch each way very far so it is easy to spread out. The water was clear and the perfect temperature towards the end of July. There are some public restrooms towards Glen Haven Historic village.
