The Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station/ Maritime Museum was a fascinating place. Volunteer Interpretive Staff Dan & Helene are excellent personalities who took the time to not only learn the history themselves, but continue to share it to visitors.

All the buildings have been well kept, as has the equipment. Fascinating historical items and details of the United States Life Saving Service, the precursor to the United States Coast Guard, and how they attempted (and often) helped ships/sailors who ran aground on Lake Michigan.

I would definitely recommend visiting.

This site is located within the National Park and National Park...

There was a life saving demonstration going on when we arrived so some parts of the museum were closed. Another park ranger came and spoke to us as we were peering into a closed section and let us know he'd open it up shortly for us. We went ahead to go out and look at the shore line and when we came back we noticed a giant stick in the middle of the Walk way sticking up between boards, Steve, that same park ranger, came to tell us there was a screw sticking up and he was about to fix it. All the rangers were very kind and informative and the area was well kept. Glad we...

Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan and the dunes. There are some nice hiking trails too. The scenic drive had multiple spots to pull over to see the dunes or the water. We arrived in the early afternoon and there wasn’t too much of a wait to enter. I highly encourage visitors to purchase their passes at the Visitor Center or other designated locations prior to going through the main entrance so the entrance time decreases. On our way out there was a line of vehicles almost to the road you turn off of to head...

Michigan Aurora Hunter endorsed the location. Great place to photograph, and is handicapped accessible before the beach with stone, paved sidewalks, and boardwalks. It also has a fair amount of Parking and is just down from Glen Haven and Sleeping Bear Inn. Great view of the Northern Lights with a variety of possible shots. Historically, during the day has to some terrific things to see. At night it is very dark. Please remember to aim flashlights at the ground so you don't blind others.

This was the best place to visit! Go to Glen Haven't Village, drive past the beach area, and continue to the Maritime Museum. We had plenty of parking. Talked with a great volunteer at the boat house. The views are awesome! Then explored the Keepers house. Let's just say that might be the best front porch view ever! What even better is the beach access there. It was less crowded and more calm. We played for 2hrs and is gorgeous! Wow really loved this stop!
