The winding roads through the park are a driver's dream. The panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are breathtaking, making every mile a visual treat.
For those looking to stretch their legs, Genesee Park has a variety of well-marked hiking trails that cater to all skill levels. I particularly enjoyed the hikes that led to scenic overlooks, where you can take in the expansive vistas and the beauty of the Colorado landscape. The park is also home to a herd of bison, which is always a delight to see.
The facilities are clean and well-kept, with plenty of picnic areas and rest spots to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. The visitor information center is helpful and provides great insights into the park’s history and wildlife.

Read moreNote: Bring shoe spikes. The trail will have snow/ice throughout the winter and while it's not a difficult terrain, there are a lot of narrow, steep sections made much more difficult by the ice.
The park exists on both sides of the highway. On the north side, you have Chavez and Beaver Brook Trail Loop. This Trail is 5.1 MI round trip. It is a decline for the first half and an incline for the second half (1,100 feet of elevation gain). I would rate this as 'easy to medium difficulty.' It's for hiking use only.
On the other side of the park, you will find Genesee Mountain Trail. The trailhead, as well as a portion of the trail, contain a bison enclosure designed to protect the bison population in the area. This provides you with great photo opportunities as you are very close to the bison, especially when they are being fed. Mountain biked this Trail which is a 5.6 mile out and back, climbing 600 feet in elevation to the Genesee Mountain summit. There are beautiful views once you arrive at the top. This Trail can be hiked or biked and would rate it as 'easy.'
This is a very nice park that is not overly crowded on weekdays. While it does not offer an abundance of the typical mountain range views, there are a lot of other great views available and plenty of wildlife. A great place for a peaceful adventure. I...
Read moreI have only done one hike here, but I will definitely be back. Decided to do a loop using part of Beaver Brook and absolutely loved the trail, it was a bit steep and we had rocks to climb down and over. We got there at 8am and for most of the time we were the only people there. The connector wasn't super well marked but we figured it out. Nice variation between rocky views, the creek and wooded areas. A lot of people with dogs, some off leash but friendly. But be aware that the rangers here are active, especially on the weekends, and it's a $150 fine for having a dog off leash. They have bathrooms at the trailhead and plenty of parking. Get there early, as by 11:30 the lot...
