Wow this place used to be awesome. We went for our 30th wedding anniversary and I will say the custom menu was pretty cool. After that it went down hill. I was hoping for the perfect evening with my wife on our 30th anniversary, but by the end of dinner, I just wanted to leave to get warm and take my dessert to go. We showed up right on time and were greeted nicely, staff waiter and host ran into each other on the way to our table, but host was pretty young (seemed new), he did ask how our evening was going and was polite. The restaurant was almost empty at 7PM, seemed strange but it was a Tuesday night. Start of table service was good, but we did notice it was pretty cold at our table we were by the window, that mostly showed us a reflection of the salad bar vs. the lights of down town Denver. (maybe dim the lights that are above the windows?) I know older people need more light even I do sometimes at 56, but the reflection really affected the atmosphere. Nonetheless we were excited to order, and the choices looked very good. 1st off They were out of oysters and two other items. Thinking really at 7pm in a mostly empty sea food specialty restaurant?? Okay we were moving on, placed order, we are told the lobster bisque separated and mgr. didn't think it should be served, okay glad they are thinking of quality, but really at a sea food restaurant? Apps out, they were good, although my wife said the Tuna Poke was much better at bonefish grill. Drinks were good, we ordered wine and a Blue moon. Beer glass was not cold. 2nd blue moon no new glass and no orange garnish like the 1st. just a bottle of beer (Even Chili’s gives you a new cold glass and orange with every blue moon). Apps gone and Dinner took a very long time to come out I would say over 30 minutes from the finish of apps. At about 20 minutes after apps. A platter holder is placed next to us and our table Within (6 inches), I am thinking great I am ready for dinner. Then nothing for another 10 minutes or so. Platter holder shouldn’t have came until the food is being delivered not 10 min. before. It was pretty cold at our table, but not too bad at the start, well it got worse by the time dinner came I had to eat my meal as fast as I could as my food was getting cold fast. My hand was cold and so was the steak knife. (I would say like 55-60 deg.) I looked over and the table next to us had two people with coats and scarves on while finishing their meal. I don’t know if the heater broke or maybe is was because the place was empty. The meals were pretty tasty, but forcing myself to eat fast as I don’t like cold meat was a disappointment. At this point I really just wanted to leave. We took our lava cake to go. Not the sea food romantic dinner I had planned for our 30 anniversary. I hope this helps you to train and fix any issues as your customers deserve much better for the price of the...
Read moreBizarre and highly disappointing experience at the Chart House tonight. Walking in, it seemed like it had some potential. Being an older restaurant, it had some unique architecture and what appeared to be a remodel sometime in the last 5 years or so. The center of the restaurant was kind of interesting though - basically like an abandoned buffet with sneeze guards. I would’ve converted that space into a focal point bar if it were my restaurant. Perfect space for it.
As far as the service- once we sat down, the server wished us a happy anniversary, which, it wasn’t, and it was a little awkward of course.
Next we ordered drinks, they were out of the IPA I requested. No biggie, I switched to what they did have on tap. My wife ordered some wine. She got hers first and it took about 45 minutes just to get my beer, which was frustrating because she didn’t want to just drink by herself, and it just put a damper on the experience. Maybe comp the beer as a goodwill gesture?
Once we ordered our food, they were also out of 2 other menu items that I tried to order. I ended up ordering the Filet Minón and king crab legs. My wife got the Mahi. The steak was definitely rare instead of medium rare, but ironically it was over cooked on the outside. Usually I like the char but it was like they didn’t scrape the grill or something and it had a very strong carbon taste to it. I’ve made better filets myself at home with my Sous Vide. The potatoes were luke warm, and the king crab legs were rubbery, a clear sign of either over steaming or over boiling them, which makes them very difficult to crack, a first at a restaurant.
Overall, the service really ruined the experience above all else. Our waiter wasn’t super friendly or attentive either. When we got our check, it all dawned on me- I noticed that it said that all tips were shared across the staff…which A, doesn’t encourage the server to go above and beyond, and B, doesn’t make the patron want to tip well if someone DOES go above and beyond, knowing it won’t go to them directly. Quite a bad business model, as this clearly drives poor service and lack of accountability.
For a $175 meal for 2, the value was definitely lacking for the price - $45 filet, $45 King Crab- mostly ala carte..for that price, you really expect both good service and quality of meal.
Not only will we NOT be coming back, we are going to share this feedback with friends and family too. I’m honestly shocked this place is still in business and that we actually had to book a reservation, especially after reading the other reviews too. I hope the owners address these issues. Cheers...
Read moreThis was my first time ever going to the Chart House. It was such an amazing experience. My server was Jake. If you go I really suggest that you request him. He said you can. We loved his service so much that he said next time I can request him. So I suggest that ALL OF YOU request him! Jake knew everything about the menu. Since I had never been there before I was asking him certain things. And he would ask me certain questions. And then he made recommendations for me. Every recommendation from the drink (blood orange& sage), to the appetizer artichoke & something), to my main meal which was the shrimp and lobster carbonara and even the dessert, I am a creme brulee girl. But he recommended the cheesecake. I'm definitely not a cheesecake girl. But I tried it and even the cheesecake was delicious and again I am not a cheesecake person!!!!! So if he suggests you try a particular something I'd say go with it. You never know you might like it. If I was able to give the service more than five stars I absolutely would. I would say 10 stars! I did stop and talk to the manager I do apologize but I don't have his name. But he was a really tall guy with red hair. Super nice guy. He really seems like a great person also. When I was telling him how great Jake was he said that he knows it! He is fully aware how important Jake is to him his team and the Chart House. It's wonderful that the Manager was so acknowledging to the fact of what a great employee he has. So many times a Manager doesn't seem to appreciate it but he did, he truly appreciates all that Jake does and I could tell just by the short interaction I had with the manager he's a really good manager.
All of the staff was great. Everyone!!! Thank you for a wonderful night out.
Normally I would say the meals are about $50 or more per person. My meal was part of the restaurant week selection. But we did add salads because they had an amazing salad and fruit bar. So if you're on a budget definitely try and go during restaurant week if you're not able to go any other time. If you are able to go sooner than next year definitely do it! And don't forget request Jake!
One more thing they have a really cute patio with a fire pit so I do plan on going back and sitting outside during the beautiful spring and summer weather. The fire pit was on tonight and it was warm and beautiful with...
