Huff Park provides an escape to a natural area very close to downtown Grand Rapids. The main trail is wheelchair accessible, with a paved portion and boardwalk over the wetlands. The plastic lumber for the boardwalk does create static electricity, so expect the periodic shock when you touch something. The north parking lot by the playground and picnic pavilion has limited parking. However, the East lots by the baseball fields have plenty of parking.
Huff is truly a 4-season park, with interesting wildlife throughout the year. The resident deer are fairly habituated to humans and don’t spook quickly. cat tails and bushes provide perches where you can see the birds that you can also hear. The water level fluctuates throughout the year, while main trails are kept clear from snow and water. Deer paths provide other avenues for exploration. The doggie bag station provides resources to pick up after your dog. Also noticed a sign designating Huff as a tobacco free park. Other signs indicate no biking, rollerblading, or skateboarding. Benches around the trail provide a nice rest stop...
Read moreIf you want serenity and to see deer Huff Park is the place. It can be super romantic, or it can be a family learning experience, or a peaceful walk by yourself. A sorta short trail, I usually see visitors walk it 2-3 times a visit. You'll see all walks of life there and everyone greets you instead of the awkward stare down. Everyone you pass says hi. Another thing I was really impressed with was every person you came upon that was stopped admiring deer would tell you so you could see it too! It doesn't matter if they or you saw 10 deer, you have to stop and look no matter what. Theres something peaceful about that place. I was really intuned with nature like were not alone in the world. I hate to tell everyone about such a secret place but I know some people need this right now. I hope to see you there, just look for a blue wagon that's my daughter and I....
Read moreHuff Park is actually not half bad. There's a couple of paths and several lead to the center which has a giant walking area and sitting area to enjoy the wilderness and wetlands around you. Watch out for bees and wasps since they are everywhere. If you stay on any of the paved pants or trails you should be okay not happening to worry about ticks. But if you're walking around the baseball fields or off any of the paved roads for geocaching you may want to watch for ticks. I think there are bathrooms but I was not able to find where they were located. So I did not list them in the review. Overall this is a very friendly park and does a good job blocking out the...
