The day we visited was very busy (Friday), but the area just North of Pole 2 was a great place to stop and post up some beach chairs and umbrella for part of the day, as there weren't many people stopped in that area.
We then packed up and went into the dunes area which was fun, and had lots of open space. The entire area was very clean, bathrooms were close by at all times, and lifeguards/Park service were all over, at all times.
The rules of the park say that a whip/flag are required (which you can pick up at any of the local markets on the way in), but most vehicles don't have them. I would say they're essential if you're going to ride the dunes, but maybe less so just...
Read moreWithout an atv such as a dirtbike, quad, or dune buggy, this place would get 1 star. There are infinite motorist travelling at all times on the beach which is exciting to see at first, but then quickly becomes overwhelming for beachgoes, especially those with little children trying to enjoy the area. (Let's not even begin with the drunkards and constant Law Enforcement regulating speeders and wreckless drivers).
The WIND seems to never subside and catches any sand and whips it from kids running, vehicles driving, and people moving about.
One positive for non motorists, It is an absolutely awesome place to pick up sand dollars...
Read moreFive stars because it's a free once in a lifetime experience. The initial impression was..take a picture...I will wait in the car. But, I was happy I got out and started the trek. The height of the dunes are deceiving. As my granddaughter climbed..she yelled down .."it's a different world up here"! That it was, after scaling the dune to its height..the view was very nice. It wasn't a dangerous climb. It's all sand....golden colored, feather pillow soft sand, that rivals the softness of the sugar white beaches of Clearwater, Florida. Go...but, walk the area and climb to get the full experience. Parking could be a burdensome task...
