To start you are paying for the view and not the amenities or the rooms. The view of the lake from the cabin is spectacular. Being able to see and enjoy nature is wonderful. It’s very quiet. The main lodge is beautiful; lots of money was spent on making a great first impression. Unfortunately it stops there. The cabins that we stayed in as well as another family member stayed in is what would be expected at a cheap pre-1970 motel along a secluded interstate. Our handicapped accessible cabin was slightly better than the other handicapped accessible cabin. We had tile flooring throughout the rooms while the other cabin had a worn out carpet that no longer was flat. A person who was unsteady on their feet could trip over the various uneven sections of the carpet. The living room/kitchen as adequate with fake leather sofa and chairs. Ours didn’t not have a hole in it like the other one. The microwave And countertop area is small. Don’t look behind the curtains because you’ll find lots of cobwebs, dirt, and dead bugs. None of the windows open. The master bathroom has no countertop so you have to use the desk in the bedroom for all your toiletries. In the second bedroom it’s a very small vanity and a very tight combined shower and toilet area. Much of the furniture has dents and dings and scratches. The beds had the thinnest sheets I’ve ever seen. The bedspread was thin also. The pillows were covered in plastic then covered with a thick pillowcase. The back porch has plenty of room with a outdoor patio set of four wire chairs with no cushions and a small wire table. The fire pit below the porch was filled with debris and trash. The small barbecue grill is an old metal grill on a pole. There is no front door porch light to help you see at night. Other than the view, the bed was somewhat comfortable; the towels were good; and the cleaning ladies were very friendly. For the $155 +tax and fees per night, I would expect so much more. Other family members stayed at the main lodge and said that those rooms were very basic too. The honeymoon suite was beautiful on the inside, but lacks privacy on the back porch where the jacuzzi and large grill is located. One would expect some free champagne or treats for the happy couple, but that is extra. Overall if you’re not into overpriced lodging but plan to be out exploring nature, stay in town or pitch a tent or...

I don’t know what kind of operation y’all are running over at Guntersville State Park, but the state of the grass is downright embarrassing. It looks like it hasn’t seen a mower since Christmas, and we’re smack dab in spring. This isn’t a nature preserve — it’s a campground where people bring their families, their kids, and their hard-earned money to enjoy a safe and clean outdoor experience. Instead, we’re staring down knee-high weeds, worried sick about snakes slithering around or our kids stepping on broken glass and beer bottles hiding in the jungle you’re calling a lawn. And let me be clear — we couldn’t camp if we wanted to. There’s no way we’re pitching a tent in that overgrown mess, much less letting our children run around in it.
What really gets me is the complete disregard for safety, especially when it comes to kids. Y’all know good and well that families are out here trying to enjoy the park, and instead we’ve got to follow our kids around like hawks to make sure they don’t end up in the ER because someone didn’t feel like mowing the grass. If one of these children gets bitten by a snake or steps on some jagged glass because of your laziness, hell will break loose. I’m talking lawsuits, press coverage, the whole nine yards — because this is unacceptable. You’ve got a responsibility to keep this park maintained and safe. Get it together, and fast.
And another thing — where are the picnic tables and grills? Y’all stripped them out like nobody uses them, and that decision is just plain ridiculous. Not everyone has a truck to haul a grill or the money to go buy one just to cook a hotdog. This is supposed to be a family-friendly park, not some bring-your-own-everything survival camp. People come here to relax, eat, and spend time together — not to sit in the dirt and figure out how to cook over a hole in the ground. Bring back the basic amenities that used to make this place worth visiting, because right now it’s a...
Read moreI would just like to start by saying I had a wonderful stay. I stayed in the Executive Chalet (#407) for 3 nights. The Executive Chalet is next door to the Luxury Chalet. The Chalets are near the Lodge to the left of the Lodge (if you are facing the Lodge).
Cabin: When I arrived the inside was well cleaned. The kitchen is stocked well as far as dishes go (cups, bowls, plates), but there aren't very many dishes to cook with. I didn't cook in the cabin because I visited some of the local restaurants for every meal. There is a fridge and freezer, and there is an ice maker in the freezer. I only slept in the bed one of the nights I was there, but I slept comfortably. The view from the cabin is awesome, and they have cut down the trees directly behind each of the cabins so you get a really nice view of the lake. There's plenty of seating on the wraparound porch/patio, but there were a lot of spiderwebs/spiders specifically on the swing. There were a couple of bugs in the cabin, but it is a wooded area so it wasn't a big deal to me. There isn't any wifi in the cabin as far as I was aware, but I also didn't go out of my way to try to connect. I was staying alone so there was more than enough linens for my entire stay, and I had no need to contact housekeeping for more. They don't come out to clean the cabin during your stay unless you ask them too. There's parking available in front of the cabin, as well as an additional spot for each cabin for boats and trailers. The cabin overall is spacious, clean, and well furnished.
Lodge: Be advised the Pinecrest dininig room is only open Thursday-Sunday (breakfast only on Sunday). Monday-Wednesday there is a "continental" breakfast at the Lodge, but it pretty much only consists of a couple of cereals, muffins, coffee, and juice. The Lodge pool is currently closed and under construction.
Overall I enjoyed my stay, and I plan to return at some point to explore more of Lake...
