Gurnee Park District — Attraction in Gurnee

I feel compelled to share my experience at Gurnee Park District (Viking Hall) to inform others who may be considering this venue for their events. Upon arrival, we found the venue in poor condition, with uncleaned areas including what looked like vomit in the sinks and dirty floors under the stove.

Despite these issues, we proceeded with our event and followed the venue's rules. However, the treatment we received from the staff was completely unacceptable. Before the event even ended, a staff member walked around with a clipboard, aggressively directing guests on how and what to clean. This behavior was demeaning and left us feeling disrespected.

Additionally, one of my guests expressed concern over the lack of accessibility for their child who was on crutches. The staff member insisted that the door could not remain open for accessibility and instead offered to open it from the office each time it was needed. This impractical solution caused unnecessary inconvenience and stress for my guest.

Overall, our experience at Gurnee Park District (Viking Hall) was extremely disappointing. The lack of cleanliness, unprofessional treatment, and disregard for accessibility left us feeling undervalued. I cannot recommend this venue and hope others will take this review into consideration before making a decision to rent this venue. I do not recommend anyone planning an event here. The coordinating staff is rude and will use their fees as retribution against you for being personally upset at you. It's one thing to calmly explain issues being brought up and another where you're shouting and abruptly hanging the phone on us without thoroughly explaining policies.
