We did the 6 mile trail "penosha". It's a very nice trail but it's very man made. There was a lot of dirt brought it to create this trail as you can see by the well manicured path. There were only a few steep elevation changes. There are multiple benches on the path to take breaks. It looks like this trail is maintained or at least the bench were created by the eagle scouts. The trail really isn't 6 miles as it states. You can see the exact distance in the picture. I would definitely say this is a beginner trail so if you want a nice walk in the woods this is for you but if you want somewhat of a challenge I'd...

Great trail, enough elevation change to make it worth the drive, nice scenery. If you’re hiking make sure you keep to the no bike trail. We tend to go counterclockwise (CCL)as the sequence of elevations is challenging enough for us. Watch the markers as you descend onto the street. Watch for traffic. If you go CCL, you will turn left at the street, go across the other side, go up the hill, and at the very top you will see the marker back onto the trail and make a right turn. Bikes are very popular also, please look for bike...

Penosha shares the same parking lot and trailhead as the Murray Lake and Torn Shirt Mountain Biking loop (Bishop Lake Complex) but it's a hiking only loop.Sometimes it's nice to not have to worry about mixed traffic. The 5 mile loop is well marked and well maintained with a moderate difficulty due to tree rooted climbs and descents. There is a portion that takes you on a residential backroad but don't worry you're in the correct spot just keep going and you'll see where the trail...

The 5ish-mile loop is not for the faint of heart. It's not really for a leisurely stroll thru the woods. Some steepish hills and protruding roots and rocks make this a hiking trail you probably wouldnt want to jog/run. The trail is clearly marked, so no fear of getting lost. Not much for scenic photos in mid-November, but it would probably be beautiful in Spring, color change, or snowfall. Overall, we had an enjoyable time!
