This place is Incredible! Always such an uplifting atmosphere, with Families and Pets all around. This is the best places to go for sensory stimulation...There is just so much!! 🐦🌲🦌
It's all Fun & it's Free Shared Knowledge, which I'm a Huge proponent of. Make sure to tour the shop, because there are educational activities for kids and adults, and a wonderful observatory where you can see colorful Birds & Squirrelies playing joyfully.
I really appreciate how much the park caters to local artists and have so many fun activities, contests, and events going on simultaneously!
In the beginning, I like to go off the beaten path & take the trails near the marshes because most of times, it's pretty private and I can really get in touch with the Peaceful Nature & whistle back & forth to the mockingbirds. Then, since all trails lead back to the main one, I can end the scenic journey in fellowship, and smiles from others who are also absorbing the Zest of the Great ouTDooRs!
Its taken me far too long to discover that it was there! Now I go quite often, many go daily. I wrote this review so people can know how special it is to still have free, natural, community programs. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 🥰
P.S.~ It's good to bring Water, Snacks, Waste Bag, & Napkins! ...Lol, those trails can be pretty long! 😉 Also, watch to not crush little black snake who crosses the road, I redirected all...
Read moreWildwood Park & Lake Santuary is well over 100 years old. It was originally called Wentz's Swap. In its hayday it had a zoo, ice skating and picnicing areas. Currently it has about 3.5 miles of both paved and dirt trails. Some are great for seeing wildlife on the waters edge.
It is part of the Harrisburg Area Greenbelt (basically it's crown jewel). It is bound by Route 22/322, I-81 and Industrial Road, just north of HACC's main campus. They host an annual "Art in the Park" Animal 5K Run Walk, and a Wetlands Festival. caga.org
Home to the Benjamin Olewine III Nature Center where you can sit back and explore the history of the area. It has a lot of kids activities, like reading books, toys, crayon & colored pencil drawings, animal costumes, and so forth in the center. It has a really neat plastic nature diorama that kids can play in and crawl under. I cant express how great this is for little kids. A less of note is the bird viewing area.
The center also has an art gallery, weather station, lab & class rooms downstairs as well as a huge gift shop with all kids of toys, books and goodies.
You can sit down and watch all different types of birds from an overlook. It has over 3 miles of hiking trails all around it, as well as a boardwalk with some great views. Good if you like walking, have pets or want to see some nature. The Best things about Wildwood Lake: It's fun...
