We found the flier for the farm in the Virginia Welcome Center and decided to check it out. Going down I-81 S, it was 5 miles out of the exit. It was a fun ride there (at least for kids, parents driving it's a bit scary) since it's filled with well-paved winding roads, inclines, and downfalls. It was a bit sketchy since my family and my aunt's were the only ones there, but that was soon dismissed by the friendly staff. I was informed since it was on a weekday and school has already started, that there weren't many families visiting. I expected that most of the activities were closed, but she gladly opened them for us. It was like having the farm just to ourselves! There were animals and rubber duck races to entertain the young ones and sling shots and "hamster wheels" for the older ones. There were also interesting learning stations about animals, and a playground. The famous carousel was a bit of a disappointment, since it was a bit run down. Also, the animals, at least to a city guy, seem a bit uncared for with flies all over and in their eyes and fungus growing on the hairs of the horse. Though im only deducting one star because I'm not an expert in animal care. Overall, it's a nice place and I can imagine it being busy with business during the fall with their pumpkin picking and corn maze. I can recommend this place to anyone who just wants to relax after a long drive and relax with the amazing views of the...
Read moreOur family has been having an annual fall trip to the farm for 11 years. This year was such a disappointment. We arrived and to our surprise we were greeted by staff that was rude and off-putting. We entered the store to purchase our bracelets as the booth was unmanned and were informed that the donuts we love are no lo ger available. While disappointment we ventured onto the farm and headed to the animals and slingshot. A group of staff of various ages sitting in lawn chairs started barking at my husband and son to fetch the balls back because they weren't going out to get them. We graciously agreed but, this wasn't behavior we were used to experiencing there. We then headed to the maze where we were told no longer had the punches or aids. After seeing them inside the maze, we inquired again and were told, "they never should've opened the maze. We still have to clean it out bit, they did anyway. That's why there isn't anything." Our visit was several days into the Pumpkin Festival. We spent over 200.00 and none of the experience was available. This is something our family does once a tmyear and even have some who travel in. It was enough that I'm not sure we'll be back. It...
Read moreHad a really bad experience today. Paid $32 entry fee for a farm with not very much to do. While playing the slingshot game, the employee manning the game proceeded to walk on the field while we were still shooting balls to go grab a few and bring them back. While this was happening, another older worker, who I assume may be the owner, shows up on a four-wheeler, bumps into my girlfriend, and proceeds to yell at us for shooting balls into the field. Going on and on about how it’s common sense to not shoot balls into the field while someone is out there. He then proceeds to end the interaction by threatening us by saying “If you all want to know what it’s like to get hit by one of those, I will gladly do it” before he sped away.
A couple things here, one, common sense is NOT walking onto the field while balls are flying; two, common sense is ALSO NOT yelling at your paying customers. We had 0 intention of harm to anyone, we apologized to the employee and he apologized for the other’s behavior.
I should’ve demanded a refund but we decided not to escalate. Either way, I would not recommend going there with such...
