It's been some 35 years since I first walk into charter oak landing during the flood season. I was fascinated about high the river was. As a marathon swimmer who enjoys rivers and lakes , oceans and streams, I will say that the Connecticut River is one of the most unpredictable ribbons of water one could go in. The park hasn't changed much at all with picnic tables playgrounds, and people fishing off the edge under the charter oak bridge and other various past times. By strolling up the immediate raised bank of the waterway, Northbound from the esteemed Charter Oak Bridge, one can see plenty of vegetation. On some days, further up , away from the visitors, we might also see Beaver, muskrat, and winged birds like Red Tail hawk, Heron, and even an occasional Bald Eagle. As a marathon swimmer I get to see all of this and more in our Grand flowing CT River. And .....? Downtown Hartford is always looming within view, just up by the famed founders bridge.
