The park in general, is a decent place to go to let the kids play, swim, and have fun like kids did when we were growing up. Like us GEN X kids did. (You know who you are!) But it is weird seeing rubber padding on the ground, instead of just grass and dirt like we had in the play ground area. But I gotta say, the monument statue near the entrance, looked like a dump! I mean really people? Stop being friggin slobs, and show some class! Pick up your garbage, and put it where it belongs! I can't believe you people just throw garbage everywhere, and enjoy looking at it! No wonder this town just looks like a total toilet! I wish everyone could see the old photos of all the neighborhoods, from the old days. As busy as this city was, it was pretty clean of trash everywhere. Because people cared about how their neighborhoods looked, and how their parks especially looked. Because people used to bring their family members from different places, to the parks for picnics, and gatherings for a day outside and enjoy life with each other! And sometimes, one family would meet another family, and they'd share different types of food and traditions with each other. But times, and people have changed. There's no unity, or community pride anymore, and it seems that no one cares about anything except for themselves now a days! And it's really,l really sad! If everyone picked up just one decent piece of trash every day, That would make such a difference, it doesn't seem like it would, but look . 100 people, pick up 100 pieces of trash, that really adds up quick! And because of that, people get in better moods, because their surroundings look much better! I swear that's a fact, someone did an experiment a long time ago! In fact, it was the reason why CENTRAL PARK was created in N.Y. So people could escape starring at the gloomy concrete sky scrapers...
Β Β Β Read moreRecently visited Colt Park with my Aunt and family members including my cousin's son, my aunt's grandson. He was visiting from San Antonio and we wanted to show him where his grandmother grew up. My mother's family lived in the caretakers cottage, a brick house on the grounds of Colt Park, my grandfather was a city employee and was able to lease the house. What an amazing place to grow up, with an olympic size swimming pool ice skating in the winter, all sorts of sports fields, including the handball courts that I photographed. They look like they might be locked up for now, but my aunt was happy to see that they were in good condition. She even liked the graffiti. She played on the same courts as a child, and she is 80 now. What an amazing thing to see this park preserved and mostly intact. People seem to be enjoying the playground, and there were groups of Youth playing basketball on the courts. There's a lot of open Green Space here in between housing developments and the old Dillon Stadium which is the stadium for the Connecticut athletic futbol team. For us it was worth the visit for sentimental purposes, I think the park is great for people who live here to use, and I'm looking forward to seeing the National Park Service develop more programming around this...
Β Β Β Read moreGreat little park. Well big park actually. It was moderately well kept, not much trash, grass was cut. Had a central park feel because you know you are in the city but it's about a mile primer y of grass.
It's largely deducted to sports ( baseball, football, soccer, basketball) but there are wide open feels for young children, dogs, kites and the like. You can see the downtown skyline and walk to the river front. The playground is really nice with it's rope course. The pool was great. It had surprising hours. 12-4 for kids only, no adults allowed on the pool deck. 5-6 for adults no kids allowed on the pool deck. 12-5 on weekends and everyone is allowed. Opens at the end of June which also feels late. There are two pools. One goes from 2ft to 4ft for kids. The other is a full lap pool for adults.
I look forward to exploring it more. The consideration is that it attracts the homeless and the bored. Which is great for them, however some families may prefer Elizabeth Park or the...
