One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had! Our tour was with Loraine, Riley, and Spencer. We had to push our booking one day later since there were only 3 of us who booked the planned evening, and they will only do a tour with a minimum of 6 guests. This was a disclaimer in the info given when we signed up, and they called me early that morning to tell me there was a good chance of needing to rebook unless 3 more people joined day of (we booked last minute anyway, so calling that morning was adequate warning). It worked out for us that we were able to go the next night instead, so no worries. Their communication was good and appreciated! Loraine also text day of the tour to make sure we had good directions to their temporary dock location since the usual one is undergoing repairs or something. The new location is about 5 minutes away I believe, and the text directions and pictures were very helpful! Our crew was very nice! They explained the plan for the tour well, gave us lots of info on the manta rays and explained why they have certain rules in place such as no touching the mantas due to their skin coating. The sunset view was incredible while we listened! The boat ride was about 10 minutes. I had a lot of fun on the boat ride actually! If you’re prone to seasickness, the ride there was bumpy, but the ride back at night was very smooth. I’d be more worried about the floating time vs the boat making you sick though if that’s the case. They take you near the Mauna Kea Resort bay/beach for the snorkel. During the floating, Riley and Spencer went around to help adjust the pool noodles for floating or goggle fit if needed. The mantas came SO close to us! One time they even got close enough that their fins patted me a little. We usually only had one manta around at a time, but they do somersaults right in front of you and stay pretty close so it’s very cool. They told us info about the specific mantas we were seeing since they know them from seeing them so often. After we time was over (40ish minutes in the water), we got back on the boat. They had hot chocolate and snacks for us. I couldn’t personally get to them easily since our tour was pretty booked and the boat was full, but the option was there! I would absolutely do this tour again! As with any of the island tours, yes it’s pricey, but an experience that is so unique and amazing that I felt like it...
Read moreWe had an amazing time with Adventure X! Initially, we went at the beginning of our vacation. The wind was strong, and the water was choppy. The captain informed us clearly that we probably had to turn around but wanted to give it a try. We went out for an hour and saw some whales from far away, but the boat ride was so awesome. We loved the spray and the action. We did have to turn back to shore, but were able to reschedule for free, and we ended up booking a snorkel and whale watch combo. The water was much better, and again, the tour was run amazingly. I forgot the names. We had the same captain (the manager), who has a great way of explaining things and navigating the boat. Sage was a crew member who definitely kept up on her whale knowledge in detail and shared loads of information. She used a camera to record our snorkel and underwater whale sightings. A newer crew member was also super helpful and kind. We were offered all kinds of snacks and beverages that I would never expect on a boat trip like this, so that added to the cool factor! This is not a tour for people in high heels and jewelry; your makeup definitely will not stay in place. People in flip-flops, beach hair, and an expectation that they can receive some sea spray will enjoy this tour the most. On top of a very well-run tour, we were lucky enough to see an abundance of breaching whales, splashing tails and fins, and a close encounter with a whale from the boat, which Sage filmed underwater. The snorkel location was beautiful, and we saw an eagle ray and turtles and a gazillion beautiful fish. We could also hear the whales singing while snorkeling, which was amazing. We will definitely use this company again. Underwater video...
Read moreI had an amazing experience seeing manta ray up close at this tour. The folks at adventure X boat tours were very friendly and organized.
The whole experience was well managed by Rachel, Vasi and Mason which provided for a satisfying adventure.
We were greeted by Rachel who was in charge of gear fitting and snorkeling. We were 17 people (6 is a minimum and 20 is the boat max). Rachel made sure everyone was comfortable with their seating.
Vasi gave us an orientation and we were on our way. The ride lasted about 10-15 min. We ended about 200-300 yards off the coast at Manta Ray point.
At that point we were outfitted with snorkeling gear. Rachel gave us an orientation on how to get into the water, how to behave and what to expect.
Mason set up the floating surf boards and lighting. Before we knew it the manta rays were there.
The experience was amazing! The manta ray kept coming to us by gliding in smooth circles right before our eyes. It was so close you could see inside its gills. She had about 8-10 feet wing span.
She kept coming and coming. Mason and Rachel were in the water with us pricing assistance and answers as well as useful information about these magnificent creatures.
We spent about 30 min at the water floating while holding the ropes around the surf boards.
Once we got back we were given a choice of snacks and drinks.
The whole experience was at sunset with made everything feel more magical. We saw Maui in the distance and the majestic view of the observatory on top of the mountain.
Everything lasted about 90 min. If you are into water adventures I strongly recommend...
