Great easy trail. Not as crowded as Kilauea Iki. Suggest looping this trail with Kilauea Iki and crater rim trail for a really nice loop. I like to start at Nahuku (the lava tube) in the early morning and walk the loop clockwise that way the sun is behind you in the crater and you have a beautiful view of Mauna Loa. On the return loop after leaving Halemau’mau you can look down into the crater and see your path that you walked plus the views into the crater are amazing. It's located at the bend in the trail just below Volcano House and you have to go down several steps and over some roots and rocks to get there, but we were able to get there and back without breaking any bones or wheelchair parts.
