Super helpful staff! I had a very unique experience. We had been visiting the volcano area where they have steam vents and when I was looking down into one of them the wind blew my hat and sunglasses down into the steam vent. As you might imagine I was shocked and upset since they were prescription glasses. I figured they were gone forever but I could see them down there and my family prompted me to go to the visitor center and ask if there was a ranger that might be able to help me get them out. I asked the staff and at first it didn't seem like that was something that they thought would work out ...but they checked with the ranger station and lo and behold a very nice Ranger and a maintenance man came with a long stick with a gripper on the end and they were able to get out my glasses and my hat... I was so happy and so relieved. So this thumbs up is extended to the park rangers as well but without the help of the staff at the visitor center I might have just had to buy new glasses. And the art gallery at The visitor center is really awesome to make sure and check that out...

I can't praise the staff enough for their patience and helpfulness: we told them what kind of experience and time we had to spend and they were able to guide us about the correct order to visit the different spots to maximize our time and enjoyment. Just outstanding!

I thought the rim overlook and then parking in the overflow lot and walking the half mile to the lava tubes was the best. Not the tube itself which was shockingly underwhelming but the walk there was pretty, it had informative signs about the forest, and it actually had its own overlook into a separate cauldron, with plenty of photo ops with either the jungle or the cauldron as a background

The park entrance fee seems steep but it's good for 7 days so it becomes more cost effective the more you return

Also, a very real consideration is that the park is at a great altitude so it's so pleasant as compared to the raging humidity and heat of the Hilo side, so that alone would make it...

Found the best place to stay on Big Island Hawaii. This tiny house is every travelers dream! Let me show you this amazing Airbnb… 📍Kuono at Volcano Airbnb 🌋For $650 USD per night you stay just 6 min drive away from one of the worlds most active volcanoes! Don’t worry the volcano is not going to ruin your trip, in fact you dont feel it even on this side of the mountain. This cozy tiny house is surrounded by nature, forest vibes all around and has a hot tub and a fireplace. It was such a pleasure to stay here. During the night we set the fireplace at a 15 min timer and fell asleep watching the fire dancing outside in the rain. For me this was definitely my favorite place to stay on my trip to Big Island Hawaii! 😍 And being so close to Volcanoes National Park makes it the ultimate location for adventurers, nature lovers and those who want to unwind! #bigisland #tinyhouse #airbnb #wheretovisit
