This was on our way to Carlsmith Beach Park, but we stopped at a beach we’d noticed earlier. The parking lot runs along the ocean and the road—it’s long and narrow, but can accommodate quite a few cars in parallel. The waves were high, but the view was beautiful. On the left side facing the ocean, we saw a set of steps leading down into a lagoon-like area, so we entered from there. As soon as we got in, it was too deep to stand, and the water wasn’t very clear, so it was hard to tell how deep it was. We snorkeled a bit farther out, but didn’t see any fish that day, so we soon turned back. James Kealoha Beach Park is said to have public restrooms, showers, benches, picnic pavilions, and even lifeguards on duty, which makes it seem like a safe and well-equipped place.
