We were told this was a good morning walk down from the Sheraton. After the bit of a walk on a busy road, we made our way past a small placard and into the field of rock itself. There was a small amount of space to park a car, but it was impossible to drive into the Grounds themselves. After a very light hike in over lava rock, the views were spectacular, and the coastline view here was stunning. We did see a few people taking a running leap into the water on the far side, but it didn't look like a safe decision - not enough overhang and no solid way up where the waves weren't crashing against the rock. That aside, there were some wonderful areas to scramble along the coastline, with stunning views. Wear GOOD shoes . (I didn't and I dealt with the blisters for the rest of my trip.) It is worth noting that there is private property accessible at the end of the gravel road - which should be respected. I also saw some goats near the coastline. They were adorable and relaxed. (We did not approach the wildlife, of course.) #letsguide #hike

Great spot for a hike to get away from crowds and commercial establishments or just to catch an amazing sunset. Stay on the path, this is a Hawaiian burial place. No cost or tickets required.

Looks like a cool spot to fish, be careful down there, and watch out for the goats

This place is a field of barren 'A'ā lava rock. It's a place to visit because of its importance in Hawaiian history. In 1819 Kekuaokalani and his wife Manono died in a battle here fighting to retain the old Hawaiian religion of Kapu after Kamehameha II abolished the Kapu System. Only about 300 people died in the fighting but the battle utterly ended the Kapu System and changed Hawai'i. Christian missionaries arrived a few months later and were, after a time, allowed to preach the Christian faith to the Hawaiian public who, at the time, had no religious faith. After King Kamehameha II and Prime Minister Ka'ahumanu embraced Christianity, it became the official...

Our family almost did not stop here along our drive between other points of interest, and we realize it would have been a huge mistake. The view is certainly something to behold in itself, although the history is quite appealing and should be consumed equally when visiting. We arrived when the tide and waves were combining to reach epic heights and cosmically loud crashing sounds. You definitely want to be careful as there are no fences or boundaries. We managed to peruse safely to the outer point and got terrifically drenched by the splashing ocean. We had a truly fun time and got lost in the moment for at least a...
