The 2018 eruption of Kilauea's lower east rift zone made news headlines around the world. Epic lava destruction took place inside of formerly cozy and tranquil neighborhoods. This museum is dedicated to preserving the memory of this tragic event. The loss was very sad, while at the same time, the volcanology was fascinating. I was fortunate to have visited on a Sunday when I got to meet a volunteer named Kevin. He shared his own story of having lost his home, which broke my heart. He also entertained me with a wealth of crazy and interesting facts. (Be sure to ask him about all the weird things that came out of Fissure 17!)
