Cool hike spot. We had some falling rocks as we ascended on our return so keep an eye out for that. Usually after a rain event some loosen. Also, after rain the track gets very slippery. Once at the bottom you feel a little like you'r eon a movie set as the valley seems enormous as do the trees. The beach is a volcanic rock/sand, jet black and intermixed with a variety of other coloured rocks. Really cool. My wife and I did the walk easily, people with a disability or uncomfortable on rough, slippery or mixed surfaces are unlikely to find the walk accessible. It gets warm climbing back up, make sure you have water in the car when you get back up. If you're likely to need a stick to balance yourself on the way up, grab one of the many from the top as all the ones at the bottom are left there by...
Read moreBeautiful hike. We made the mistake of taking it without researching or planning well. It's pretty steep down, and I'm not in the best shape, so I under estimated what it would take to get out of the canyon. It looked pretty simple and short, so we just started walking on a whim. We forgot to take water - which was a huge mistake. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the bottom, and 1.25 hours to get back up, though I'm not saying this is the time for everyone. Definitely needed water - as it gets hotter and hotter the closer you get to the bottom. The beach down there and views of the valley were definitely worth it - but I wish we would have planned better. ...
Read moreGreat little hike for pretty much anyone! The trail is a little rocky, but if you watch where you step is completely manageable. My middle schoolers had no problem whatsoever. Make sure everyone has water and bring some snacks as it gets hot and it's 1.2 miles / 2 kilometers round trip down to the beach and back. There are some great views down along the way though. We were shoes (hiking boots would be overkill) but also saw people in flip flops. Highly recommended. Would...
