Cloud Splitter Trailhead — Attraction in Hazel Green

Beautiful, somewhat steep hike for 2 moms and 3 teens. Be prepared for some rock climbing (there is an anchored tether cord available) if you want to get to the rock bald on the top! There is also a neat cleft that leads out back for a cave view, but it had some water in it and we decided not to pursue that view. Awesome views from the top. Really lovely flora and fauna. The rhododendron were blooming and we saw many different fungi. Overall, great, short moderate/strenuous hike. It is an unofficial hike and we went during the week. We saw 4 other people total. I have this trail marked as hard. It was a little harder than your everyday moderate hike, mostly due to the rock scrambling and short rock climbing. Happy hiking.

This trail also links with the Turtle trail mark, which connects up further east to Bison Trailhead.

Trail is up a piece from the marked parking area on the opposite side of the road. Pretty difficult on the shortcut trail. Very steep elevation. Quite a few areas that required climbing due to some areas that have been affected by downed trees. View was amazing at the top, absolutely stunning view of the gorge. Not for the faint of heart who struggle...

We were able to do this hike with our 6 year old and 2 year old! Beautiful area and scenery! There are a few spots that were difficult to climb up, but for the most part very do-able!

There is a great big rock everyone was jumping off! Definitely for a thrill seeker! 😊
