Indian Staircase Trailhead — Attraction in Hazel Green

The wife and i loved this hike. Its strenuous and had quite a bit of elevation gain. Multuple areas of this trail are really steep and your scrambling over builders as well as several sand stone rock faces that you have to carefully traverse. Would not recommend for beginner hikers. BEWARE OF THE WEATHER going over the sandstone rock face portion could be dangerous when wet. Also check your trail map when hiking. Path will split so make sure you go UP the sandstone portion...

Indian staircase is an awesome trail, it’s pretty steep but definitely doable for most ages with at least slight athletic ability. Beautiful views. We did see a copperhead right in the middle of the trail on route to cloudsplitter. Dogs can easily do this trail with a leash and help/ motivation from the opener. Easy trailhead to find, but not the easiest path to navigate. Even though it is a relatively short hike, be prepared to exit via the loop if you're not comfortable climbing back down the staircase.
