Excellent access to hit Indian Staircase & Cloud Splitter all in one ambitious hike. Not a ton of parking at the trailhead. Take Bison Way Trail then connect to Sheltowee and take a right on an unmarked trail to get to Indian Staircase. Easy scramble if you are a capable person. Provides a stunning view once to the top. After we walked along the left of the ridge rim to get the the cave that is around there. Walked through the cave and ended up on another ridge trail that is insane. So close to the cliff edge with a gorgeous view, but still felt safe. You’ll eventually hit pine growth and walk in the forest a long while to get on a steep unmarked trail to get to cloud splitter. Keep climbing until you see the ropes. Use the ropes to scramble up and experience an extremely rewarding view. Afterwards get back to your trail, back track a bit then take an unmarked trail with a step downhill to the road. You’ll walk the road to get back to Bison Way Trailhead. There is your ambitious loop to hit those amazing features! Highly recommend downloading the...

(Right about then I started wondering how I was going to get back down.) The climb up Indian Staircase was easier than I thought it would be, tho. Cloudsplitter was every bit of what I thought it would be. This was one of those hikes I enjoyed more when I was done. Now, I...
Read moreLove this trail. At this point it has sentimental meaning. There are many beautiful hikes. However, coming here you can make a good few hour loop for exercise or a stroll to enjoy the view. Most the routes are moderate in difficulty. Sad part is people don't know the basic rules of "if you pack it in, pack it out." So please pick up after yourself. Leave the wilderness wild as it should be not...
