Heller Nature Center — Attraction in Highland Park

This place has been a life saver for us on the regular! Being able to take a peaceful escape down beautiful trails and thrive/play amongst the gorgeous forest just a short drive from my home is just such a God send. ...the nature playscape is one of my favorite places to be with my children - it encourages their love of the natural world and is such a wonderful environment to encourage open-ended play and curiosity. We love their story walk trail that rotates a new story book regularly on the easy family friendly trail. We love the gnomes ....we love that our homeschool group has found a fantastic place to meet regularly - and the staff have been absolutely amazing every step of the way. I really love that my dog can come with us here! (Not all of the preserves allow you to have dogs). It's so nice also for cross country skiing! The Heller Nature Center has become a second home for my family. Our homeschooling group loves to meet in their beautiful indoor space. I love that they showcase rotating artists on their walls and that they sell their own honey sticks from the honey in their center. My kids are obsessed with their treehouse and their fun children's wooden maze. We have also enjoyed their programming. Their staff is very knowledgeable on the different animals and plants...

Really great experience. Friendly staff and well maintained gear. We skied for over 90 minutes and did all the runs easily. Mostly flat in all wooded trails and not crowded at all. Will easily go back (and not just because my companion left her drivers license at the rental shop). It's worth a repeat for sure. Great for first time skiers and families with...
