Few's Ford access of Eno River State Park. Has its own parking lot (beside the Piper-Cox Museum) and it's somewhat near the office. Red blazes. This is a 1.5 mile loop trail that goes beyond Fews Ford and upriver. There are quite a bit of staircases at the beginning/end. So expect some up and down here. It flattens out relatively beyond the stairs. Roots mixed in. Red clay trail so expect it on your shoes. Some rocks throughout. High canopy.
The views of the river here are on the north side of it and this is the better side in my opinion. This trail is probably better for folks new to hiking as it is easier than the other trails on this side of the river. I would guess it is easy to moderate at parts depending on your hiking level/experience.
You can access the Ridge Trail and eventually the Knight Trail if you choose to go this way.
There is a footbridge on the trail and this bridge takes you to the Holden Mill Trail (2.6 miles) which is a better trail for scenery, wildlife, etc. I use the Buckquarter Creek Trail to get to Holden Mill Trail to complete a 4.1 mile...
Read moreThis trail is well worth the hike! The artwork of God was beautiful and amazing!! It had rained the day before and sprinkled some the morning we came so the trail had some standing water and muddy in parts. The is a moderate trail to me due to the unevenness of the rock steps and the change in elevation in some parts. This trail will be difficult for young children. The River was gorgeous with all the rapids! The deck allows to to overlook the rapids. You can tell how high the River has risen and overflowed out of its banks. We heard a lot of birds and saw a few squirrels but no other wildlife. There are many rocks and roots in the trails so watch your step. There was lots of very interesting trees and fungus! We had an awesome time- well...
Read moreGreat place to hike, splash around in the water, or put a canoe/kayak in for a fun afternoon. There is also fishing here, which is always a hit with the kids. The trails are easy to moderate, with some elevation changes that require climbing stairs or slopes. The ford is ankle deep unless there had been a lot of rain, so it's good for the younger kids to play in the water too. Be aware of unleashed dogs - the sign says no unleashed dogs, but I come across someone without their dog on a lead every time...
