Not my favorite trail, although perhaps a different time of year might be better? There were NO waterfalls or even much in the way of streams visible from the trail. We crossed through some gullies and could hear water, but not really actually see very much. We crossed the Makiki trail over to Maunalaha and down, and was disappointed at the lack of views. Even Maunalaha only had filtered city views and a few mountain views. Trail was very dry, as it hasn't rained much lately. I would recommend Makiki for a hot day when you want a lot of shade maybe. It goes up and down and up and down 3 or 4 times, so you will get some good cardio. The trail down Maunalaha was entirely tree rooted, so that made the going slow. It's also very steep, so like climbing down stairs really (in fact there were some stair sections toward the bottom). My phone said 775' elevation change, and about 2 miles from Makiki (NW) to the Nature Center. Oh, and there were a bazillion flies that swarmed us at the Nature Center. We ubered back to our car, as we had little interest in hiking back up. We hear a lot of birds,...

We were looking for very jungly trail, and this was a big hit for us. When you start off, the first 30 mins you keep finding the most fresh mango and guava all over the trail going down to the valley- I didn’t hesitate- ate them all. Better than any farmers market.

We tried the Makiki loop trail, which was a combination of 3 different trail, and it was a little confusing without checking my all- trail app, so if you intend to do the Makiki loop trail, it’s probably easier if you have that app ready.

The peak of this trail was the first 45 mins and the last 1 hr- where you are swallowed into an magnificent view of green curtains.

I used to love Manoa Falls trail before they made it more accessible and paved the trail, but now this one is our favorite- although there’s no falls.

If you prefer trails with a grand destination of falls, or open ocean views, this is not it- but if you want to experience Jurassic park type of jungle with fairly easy access, without going to Kauai, this is it!

Definitely...

I recently explored the captivating hiking trail that promises an array of environments, making it a delightful journey for nature enthusiasts. The trail seamlessly transitions from a lush green jungle to a dry forest, offering a visual feast for hikers.

What sets this trail apart is its versatility. It caters to various preferences with flat hikes, a small climbing wall for those seeking an extra challenge, and a natural tree staircase that adds a touch of enchantment to the experience. The well-designed loop ensures a straightforward route, making it accessible for hikers of all levels.

While the trail is not overly strenuous, packing a bit of water and some bug spray is advisable to enhance the overall enjoyment. The diverse landscapes, coupled with the ease of navigation, make this hiking trail a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature's wonders. It's a truly enriching outdoor adventure that caters to both beginners and seasoned...

This and the waterfall was such a wonderful hike. We traveled through beautiful tropical forest, streaming vines, and climbed slick dirt covered mounds with only our feet, rocks, and strong tree roots/branches for support. We were greeted by friendly nature lovers and got very wet and dirty in the process of finding ourselves in nature. It was mesmerizing. Please check it out, knowing you will not come out clean, but you will come out of this walk to remember with a wonderful appreciation of Hawaii in all its forms. Enjoy, friends! ♥️
