Used Surfboards Hawaii — Attraction in Honolulu

I consigned my board here in December of 2015 when I had to move off of the island. I never got the check once the board sold, then called Alex and asked for an update. He said he had sent it to the wrong address and would resend it. The check never arrived. I've since emailed and called Alex multiple times and he has stopped answering my messages...He effectively stole my surfboard.

I would not recommend using this business. This is simply predatory behavior on behalf of the company, since Alex knew I was leaving the islands and that I would have little recourse if he simply sold my board and pocketed the money.

*EDIT: (July 8th, 2017) I received an email from Alex only after posting my initial Google review. He inaccurately responded to my initial Google review and stated that I said things via email that I did not. More disappointingly, he implied that if I did not remove my negative Google review he would not pay me. At this point I do not expect to get paid, but will gladly update/revise this review if my situation changes. I am simply trying to save those moving off the island the same hassle that I've faced with this company, and feel that public consumer feedback is an important part of capitalism. 0 stars. I contacted Alex the owner, a six weeks ago about selling a surfboard. He said he was interested and that he would also post it on craigslist, he then told me to come down to the shop so he could take pictures of it. I told him that I wanted to talk to him personally about the board because it is an expensive collector board with some history. So we set up a time to meet the following day. Came in the next day, he was not there, very disappointed. So I let his employee take pictures of the board and I left a print out of info on the board to give to Alex, he told me it should be posted in a few days. After about ten days I searched his site, all the categories and craigslist, I did not see it. I called Alex he told me he was busy and would call me right back, but didn't. I continued to search the site up until the time of this review and did not see it. Over the coarse of about six weeks, about six or seven times I called him and said I don't see the ad, he told me the same thing that he would check the site and call me right back, but didn't. After this review came out he sent me a link for the post. He didn't use the info I left for him about the board, the spelling of the shaper was wrong, the price he listed was half of what it was...

Second board I've bought here and I have to say today I purchased the excalibur of boards for an insanely good price. I felt like it was a robbery. I loaded that board quick on my car I'll tell ya that... Alex (I believe is his name) and his crew were super nice and patient when I asked his assistant to bring the same board out twice from the back because i could not make up my mind. As I was looking around at boards I listened to Alex talking to other customers and he was super nice and adaptive to people; even offering a little girl an alternate board to walk around on instead of the brand new board she was pretending to surf on; patient and gracious dude. He gave me fantastic tips about which board was the best for me and I also needed a nice board sleeve which he went deep down into a closet to dig out and gave me a great deal on that too. Even when I was out the door Alex noticed how I was loading the board an helped me load it in a more secure way and showed me a technique to wrap the board so it was really locked on my rack. Also, he looks like Kelly Slater. Anyways, if you want a excellent condition board for a deal that is pretty much a robbery come see Kelly Slater... I mean Alex, for your next board....
