Willow Waterhole is a series of greenspaces firstly used as water drainage, to prevent flooding of the nearby neighborhoods. Secondly it serves as animal habitat and recreational space for the Westbury community- offering paved/dirt trails, picnic pavilions and nice views. There is ample parking for visitors. The trails are wheelchair accessible. Several geocaches are also hidden among the trees. Vibrant signage informs visitors of the history, foliage and animals that call this place home. I give it 5 stars b/c it is very accessible, well maintained and enjoyable to visit. You can easily walk, run or bike on the trails. There is also a variety of flat and elevated routes to choose from.
My favorite part is the island. Around sunset, the yellow, orange and red colors on the water envelope you as you traverse the bridges and footpath. Also, there are very tall yellow sun flowers growing near the path, which blow in the wind and capture your eye with vibrant contrasting colors. My least favorite part about the greenspace is that you can see a concrete landfill if you look to the Southeast. It kinda sullies the overall natural beauty of...
Read moreNICE PARK, UNFORTUNATE NAME Don’t let the name scare you off! This clean, medium-sized community park looks nothing like one would envision a “waterhole.” The grounds, border by a beautiful pond, included plenty of green grass and a covered gazebo. [NOTE: I visited this park during a festival, so I can’t comment on everyday appearance.] This park is near an apartment complex. I talked with a couple tenants who say they enjoy walking in the park every day. TIP FOR POGO PLAYERS: There is one stop and one gym within the park.
I was there during a Music Festival. Middle School and High School ensembles opened the day with their latest Jazz numbers and professional players followed. The opening to the park comfortable held the 3 food trucks that were there. Several local organizations had informational booths along the border of the park. The best booth, of course, was...
Read moreFirst time here, what a great place!! So peaceful and really beautiful for its location! Parking is on the street, not sure on theft. However looks like s perfect place for it! On this day , we didn't see too many people but enough to feel safe! I was surprised how quiet it was, I went with my dog. Thankfully I always carry poop bags because there were no poop stations in this park. This was surprising since the majority of folks here had dogs! Nice place, don't recommend leaving valuables in car, bring your own poop bags if you have a dog. There is a warning sign for alligators but didn't see any but also wasn't looking for them. When I was heading to my car I saw a dude gearing up for fishing, looked like he was going to make a day of it!! I...
