Tl;dr: decent dog park with some really annoying people.
The dog park itself has two equal sized areas for large and small dogs. They are entirely fenced in, but the fence is only 4 ft, which many dogs can jump easily. There are multiple trash bins and places for the dogs to get water. There is also a wash station, which I appreciate greatly. There is very little shade and no creek within the fence for dogs to cool down, so make sure you are ready for that. Overall, the dog park is a place to let my dogs off leash to run, which is what I wanted.
What I didn't want is for stuck up people to be at the dog park. I used to go to the Astro Dog Park in South HSV and the people there were generally great. We all talked and understood dogs and the dogs loved to play with each other. At the Creek wood park, we found it weird that none of the dogs were playing with each other. We understood when our dog tried to play with another dog and a woman (not the owner) started yelling at us, saying "Somebody get that dog! It's chasing another dog!! Do you know how dogs work? I guess not! That chasing means it's trying to dominate the other dog!"
The actual owner of the dog and I were happy that the dogs were playing, but this woman's life is apparently so carefree that she came to the dog park to police people and cause problems. The other owner left after that altercation with that woman. Other people were really touchy about the dogs playing too, I don't know if it's because of that woman or because they genuinely don't know how dogs play. Maybe it's a Madison thing to not let your dogs play? But if I have too many more experiences where my dogs are expected to sit at the park and not do anything here, I definitely won't be...
Read moreDog park itself is decent but the owners of large dogs generally use the small dog area. I’ve had a few issues where owners say their large dog isn’t a fan of small dogs (so why are your dogs in the small dog area). Even if their large dog isn’t small dog reactive a large 60 lbs dog is more than capable of hurting a 15 lbs dog just by playing. I wish there were park rangers to keep an eye out for people breaking the rules like other parks I have visited. This park especially I have had problems at in the Huntsville area and have seen other small dogs get attacked or hurt by peoples larger dogs that shouldn’t be in the small dog area. I believe most owners use the small dog area as the big dog area can get muddy and they don’t want their dogs getting in the mud. I wouldn’t suggest this park if you have a small dog. This dog park has running water , dog bowls, and trash cans. There is only one shaded table and a few benches in the small dog area. During busy days / times there may be no seating available. The dog park is behind the playground and the paved path to the dog park can get very muddy and sometimes impassable due to flooding. I usually only come here in the summer months after it hasn’t rained in a few days due to flooding. The park that the dog park is in is nice and has a long paved walking path with a steam running through it. Picnic tables are available and public toilets. I always see several people playing disc golf out here. Beware if you have a reactive dog as a lot of people let their dogs run off leash outside...
Read moreAlthough I really hate to give such a great dog park one star, I hope that my review will get fellow dog owners' attention. A few weeks ago I took my dog to play and run off some energy right before 11 am. We were there for about 45 minutes and when I returned, my car had been broken into. The other people that were in the dog park with us were robbed as well. The parking lot is out of eyesight while in the fenced in area. We have visited the park several times before this occurred, but I never felt unsafe until this day. When I filed the police report, the officer informed me that break-ins are frequent in that area. Apparently the criminals will be watching to see if you go into the dog park or on the walking trails and will take advantage of you. I used to love going to this park, and hate to give it a bad review. However, I do want to raise awareness and ensure that...
