It be coyotes and panthers thru the beach I seen mountain lion/ panther 3 yrs ago it ran away from me after our intense eye contest for about 10 seconds and it pounced away before I seen it it fumbled out of nowhere like roll out of nowhere possibly tried to jump on me from a tree on a desperate attempt I seen it thru the nature trail and nowadays u see coyotes and huge wolves but u used to could see the actual footprints of the panther/ mountain lion the mountain lion could camaflauge with the swamp next to the beach where the fishers go (that little greenish looking pond) because it looked greenish brown and the spots was hard to see since it was muddy sand brown going into grey ish green ish it was female maybe 4 yrs old , it's usually swans/geeses daily here even in snowy winters days sometimes, you'd see ducks if u try to go on the smaller side of the beach, and the coyotes travel in a 4+ group I seen coyote 2025 possibly 3 months ago chasing each other squeezing into what I believe is the water factory property which is where the mountain lion ran away to when it decid d not to get Into a physical fight with me it pounced high to with green eyes, most folks come here on holidays or when it's warm enough to stroll the beach, all type of folks and u have your dog walkers besides the animals but then again you'd see seagulls and some other type of bird that are black they are more into the ocean and I never seen them come to land but swim with their young ones the ey look territorial like if you try to swim up close you'd possibly get attacked as they try to help their young ones...
Read moreIt has a beautiful view of downtown. My family rarely visits me in Chicago. I tell them how beautiful it is here. I live at Loyola Beach. It’s always well maintained and the landscaping is nice. Rainbow Beach is a different story. There was garbage everywhere. My niece let her two daughters, 2 & 4, run barefoot on the sand. That is until we saw broken glass. As we walked back to the car there was more broken glass. Now at family events I feel like when I’m defending the beauty of Chicago they just don’t believe me. This beach has so much potential. I’m not sure if the garbage comes from a bad attitude that “someone else will clean it up if I throw my trash in the sand.” Or if it’s just not maintained by the team of people that are paid to do so. Either way, I won’t be bringing friends or family to this beach until I hear that something has changed. Suggestions: Litter fines, then pay for monitors to hand out tickets? Hire legitimate cleaning contractors. Local clean up teams formed by that areas alderman. Then go to that beach the first Saturday of every month. Host concerts to bring people in to clean before and after to have a successful event. Craft and vendor fairs. Clean up teams paid for by the people that...
Read moreI can't truly rate the beach because it was to cold to go swimming, it was only the destination I picked since I've never went to any of the south side beaches past 31st. From my experience it seemed nice and quite and offered a different perspective of the city along with more nature areas and a lot less people than the northern more beaches. So that is a blessing. I must admit it was a little concerning going far south but to my surprise it was quite diverse . I briefly met one of their chef life guards and he seemed kind and respectful. I need to truly try it out on a nicer day to be more accurate but it was beautiful I can...
