Lovely restored little church with lots of informational signs, roughly in chronological order starting on your right as you walk in. Fantastically great portrait of MLK and a really great mural above the entry, too. Lots of QR codes to read more information on several topics, and it a little broader than just African American history - one about Idaho's "area 51" is a lot of fun. The gentleman who runs the place is great to talk to! I don't know if he's always the one there, but he's very personable.

As a person of color and a first time visitor to Idaho, I was very excited to visit the museum-this is the ONE thing I wanted to do during my week in Idaho. I even sent an email to confirm the hours of operation. I visited on May 8th and... well... This was an incredible disappointment and by far the worst part of my trip. I feel bad about writing this. The museum is free, easy to access, and very pretty from the outside. Inside there are panels and exhibits about Black History in general but very minimal (dare I say scant) information about Black people in Idaho. How is this possible? Of the 10 exhibits in the museum, only the first is about Black people in Idaho. The rest are about Frederick Douglass, Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, and MLK. That's it. This information is common knowledge - where's the history specific to Idaho? I'm glad to see that there is a place in the state that promotes Black history but it lacks so much. There's a marker outside of the museum that was donated by the Treasure Valley chapter of the NAACP but absolutely nothing about the chapter inside. This is a missed opportunity. Lastly, when my partner and I arrived, the museum attendant (docent?) never spoke to me or said a word of welcome. There were two yt women visiting at the same time, and he bent over backwards to answer their questions and cater to their needs. Never said a word to me - the only other person of color in the room. However, after overhearing the conversation he was having, I'm glad he didn't speak to me. To paraphrase 3000, 'everybody with dreads..' I will be back in Idaho, but I will never visit here again.

This was a nice little museum about Idaho Black History went with my Dad, niece, and nephew. We enjoyed talking to Phillip Thompson, Board of Director/President of the museum, on June 9th. He was very friendly and gave us some great informative information as we walked through the museum. Check it out when you're in the area. Also, check the times it's open before arriving.

My husband and I visited the museum on Wednesday, October 16th. It’s not a big museum and is in the former St.Paul Baptist Church(Idaho’s first Black church). We enjoyed talking and learning more from the Executive Director- Phillip Thompson about the museum history and his family history in Boise. This museum is free to everyone.

A definite must see when coming to Boise, I am of the belief that all people from any walk of life or ethnic backgrounds should visit such an important and Vidal part of the American historical experience.

Wonderful experience. Received our tour from the curator who was a descendant of one of the early African American Boise settlers.
